they are hard to catch on the digital camera's.
those nasty things always have a little delay...
here's two pictures my daughter made on vacation in Austria last summer.
I find lightning so incredible !

(well... from a little distance of course ;) )

Wow, nice pic..    I used to be a photographer and storm chaser.    Getting a good picture of lightning isn't easy.     Once you have your settings right, it's basically pointing the camera where you hope lightning will strike.

Great pictures.  Lighting still makes me a bit nervous since it hit my house and set it on fire.

When I was on excersize with the army in Germany there was a fantastic lightning storm, we were camped in pitch black in the middle of nowhere. I set my old 35mm SLR camera up on a tripod and pointed it down the valley, I set it to manual shutter and pressed the button and held the shutter open till after the flash then released it and wound on for the next pic. The pictures all came out perfect, they showed the lightning bolts and it also showed the whole valley where it had been illuminated. I lost those pictures along with a lot of irreplacable family ones when I seperated from the wife in 83. I'm damn sure she threw them out but can't prove it.

Ha, maybe she sold them to a magazine ;-)    My mom helped herself to pictures I took in a tiny village in Italy and gave them to a government agency.   They used them to publish a few hundred thousand brochures with my work.   Never gave me credit or a dime..   I couldn't really sue them since my mother worked for the agency and gave them the pictures to use.   I did give her an earful for not at least getting me a "BY" or Photo Credit.
