Title: and now the Computer
Post by: Judy Hunter on April 08, 2013, 06:38:23 pm
Now my computer died.  I must be killing off my equipment.  So I am using my mini computer until the new one gets here.

My wife & I have gone through periods that felt like "the revolt of the machines" when one appliance after the other just kept dying.  You will get through it and have new tools to show for it!

Ah Judy, did you let the smoke out of it again?

We are convinced that my home is a Black Hole for all things electronic...     Half the electronics I bring home don't work new from the box.   We have no Cell phone service in the house..    Seriously, I have 5 bars in my driveway and step into the house to see "No Service"..  Our lightbulbs go out about as fast as I can change them.   I go through a computer router every 6 months..   It's like we have a black cloud over our house and nothing electronic works here.

John, it could be a lot worse, it could be your scrollsaw that blew.....

Keefie, the black hole strikes again..  My new Central Air conditioner is broken.  Paid $7,000 US Dollars to have it put in 2 years ago.  They want $1,500 more to fix it.    I live in an area where you can live without a saw, but not without climate control.     Darn black hole!

John:

Have you had your electric service checked? You could have voltage supply problem (either too high or too low), or a bad/intermittent ground connection, or a bad/intermittent neutral. Contact your electric co. and tell them your tale; ask them if they will reimburse you for destroying your AC - fat chance, but it might encourage them to give the situation more than a cursory glance.

Oh, yeah - one other thing may be plaguing your supply - voltage spikes.

Luck,

John is right.  He reminded me  when I had repeated fuses blown in my 788,  I asked an electrician friend to check things out.  He switched out my 200 amp service with a new one and said  the old one has caused numerous house fires.  Now I have everything on surge protectors.
