What are the best blades other then FD blades. To cut 3/4 inch thick baltic birch plywood.
-
sorry, only can think of the FD UR blades to do the job.
but I have no other blades.....
some like the Olson blades, but I never used them.

Olson PGT's. 7's or 9's (probably 9's) with packaging tape on top to stop burning. :)

IMHO - FD Blades are the best the rest are the "other"

The best blade for cutting 3/4" BB plywood is the FD-UR number 7 or 9. It depends how intricate the pattern is. I like to use the # 7. Have used a # 5 when it was very intricate. You need very good tension, good speed and low feed rate. Let the blade do the cutting they say.
I like to use silicone spray over the pattern, it releases friction better than tape. However if you do not use must glue to spray the pattern, the tape is handy to hold the pattern down.
FD Mike.

I think that an Olsen #7 will do the job. I use both FD and Olsen, both work fine for me. You'll need to work slower when cutting 3/4" than lets say 1/4, but I've cut 1.5" Cocobolo with both FD and Olsen #5 and it can be done, although very slowly.

In my opinion you can not beat the flying dutchman blades for quality or price and if you take in to account the longevity of the flying dutchman blade and the quality of cut the results become even more evident. more inches per blade smoother finish says it all.

More inches per blade? You must mean they cut more inches per blade right? Since they are all 5 inches long.

Olson PGT #9. Sharp and cuts straight.
-
IMHO....A SHARP Blade!
~~~GB~~~
sharp blades:
can't argue with that....
:D ;D :D
I agree with GB. But how do you tell if it is dull? I am running out of fingers testing for a dull blade. :P
When it's no longer cutting the way it was when you installed it!
Other than the Fd blades I will echo the Olson PGT blades. The Fd's and PGT blades are all that I use. Using these two brands of blades, I never have the need to sand my cuts as they are like a mirror smooth finish if the blades are sharp and not worn completely out. Steve
a dull blade is much harder to keep on track. and of course the feeding speed will be slower with the same pressure.
sharp ones--couldn't help it--I'm just not myself today --call me " fingers" Richard
Olson PGT #9. Sharp and cuts straight.
I try the olson PGT #9 yes they are very very sharp and they last a bit longer then the FD polar blades What I was cutting out was the shopping bag handle on steve catalog. I just want something that can cut fast though the 3/4 BB plywood. That seem to do the trick and it was double tooth SR. I'm not sure but when I cut any wood with the FD seems that the olson blade seem to be shaper then FD.
Sorry Mike in SD i guess i'll might have to stick with olson blades because they cut alot better. I know some people like FD used what works for you. Thanks for the help.
-
You can not compare the Polar with the PGT. Two complete different tooth designs. You have to compare it with the FD-UR.
I've tried both FD & Olson and my vote is FD. I tried the rest and am sticking with the best.
