Hi all! I am excited to take up this hobby! I'm going to be picking up an entry level saw this week, and look forward to getting going on some scroll saw projects. Hopefully I'll produce some that are quality enough to post on this forum :). Steve has already been gracious enough to give me some pointers as to my saw purchase, and I've viewed several of the explanatory videos online. Ultimately my decision to learn this hobby was spurred by the fact that I am a (relatively) new father, and while shopping with my wife and 8 month old son for his nursery I saw some Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns wall plaques, and thought to myself "... I think I can make that..."
This site is truly a wealth of information from what I've seen so far and I look forward to being a member of the community!

Thanks all for the awesome welcome! I should also share that my name is Kevin, and I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. Well a suburb of Cleveland. A huge Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan, and I definitely root for the Buckeyes!
Picking up the saw on Saturday. I've been browsing the patterns and the projects, and thinking about where to start. I'm looking forward to jumping into my first project. Of course I'll practice a little to get the hang of it. But I think the first item will be some sort of Indians or Browns logo to hang in my son's room. As soon as I finish I'll get that posted in one of the other forum topics. Thanks again to all!

I think the trick to scrolling is putting your full concentration at the point where the blade touches the wood. It seems like as soon as you think of something else the blade wanders a little.
Have fun and watch your finger tips.

Welcome ,from a former Burton ,O. resident,EIEIO is absolutely correct ,The saw BLADE ,does the work, the least TPI your projects finish can stand,IMHO ,and you just guide, with the least amount of force, you can muster,Speed will come,YOU BE THE GUIDE DOG ,the blind blade, only cuts where you lead it .Years in the snow belt ,Lake effect ,sent me south ,Now it's the Indians And the Braves .Later
