I came across this and it is a great way to get into archery cheaply, You can make bows for Janey or Bobbie, or step up to heavier ones for the teen or make one for yourself. the tools required are simple as you will see as are the materials I'm going to make one for myself, it will be great therapy for my weak shoulder. Nick is quite knowledgeable and a good teacher.
Take a look here. http://www.youtube.com/user/BackyardBowyer?feature=watch

Archery season is almost as popular as gun/deer season in Wi, I don't do either tho.

Pete I don't plan to hunt big game with it although I believe some have used these bows for that, I know they can attain draw weights of 80 or more pounds. My wife doesn't like Deer venison, Elk is another story though. ;D
I couldn't handle the work of bringing one in.
I just plan to use it for target shooting and exercise. I'll be making my own arrows too so it will be a while before I'll be able to give an update......

Just making the point that bow and arrow is very popular all over especially since the "Hunger Games" came out, I heard kids all over the world wanted to learn how to shoot.

Funny you should mention that. He has several designs replicating some of the features of those "Hunger Games" bows. Some are quite simple and others are more complex to build. I really like the looks of several and I have enough pipe to make 2 right now, the neat thing is I can go to the lumberyard and pick up cut offs that the yard has laying around so I don't need to buy a whole stick at once. A whole bow can be made for around $10! I picked up some 5/16" dowels for 80 cents ea. to make arrows from Just have to be choosy picking for the straightest grain to make the straightest arrows I sorted through a couple dozen before choosing 3 as keepers. The price of arrows will give you sticker shock for sure.
