If you were looking for the ultimate scroll saw what would it be?

I have owned both and either one is a good bet. I currently have an Excalibur 16 mounted on a Hegner stand (it takes less room). I like the blade attachment on the Ex better than the Hegner because of not having to use blade clamps. If one does a lot of angle cutting the Ex is easier to use because the table stays horizontal.

I would say a Hawk should be considered

Is Excaliber the only one with head angling instead of table? I never tipped my table on my DW788 until last week, I made one of Carole Rothmans bowls. It was a pain to try to follow lines with the table tipped. I would probably put the head angling near the top of my "want on my next saw" list.

It hasn't been made yet! The Eclipse is near perfect, but it does not have a lifting top arm for top feeding.
