I have some slabs of walnut I want to refinish and use them to hang a rifle and some short pieces to hang a pitol. I need a pattern for a better word, the hooks that they will be hanging on.. Something that I can screww on from the back to make them solid so they will not fall off. I hope I am clear to what I am looking for. THanks

I made one for an M-1 Carbine and I used keyhole notches on the backside to hang the assembly. Worked well for me. I should think it would work just as fine for a pistol or revolver.

Last year I made 3 for a guy here. He has several display pistols and one of the came with a wood display plaque. I used the keyholes hangers on the back. He wanted the new one to look as close to the bought one as possible. The hanging method it had were wooden dowels put in at an angle One for the trigger area and the other close to the end of the barrel. The one he had was a light colored wood so I chose tulip poplar and they came out close enough to the original.

Referencing my previous - we fashioned some supports out of wood (obviously) and screwed them onto the board from the backside.
Today I would use glue and fasteners, but alas we all learn over time. These are "miniature" shelves, set at a 45 degree angle with an upward support, one positions behind the trigger and the other on the stock. They are placed so the rifle sits horizontal on the board assembly.
Can take a photo and forward if you would like me to do so.

Can't really help you, but my dad made one for his shot guns and what the gun is resting on is the legs of a deer. It's pretty cool.

Thanks for all the Ideras. Hey Al, I would like to see a picture of those supports if you would. An if anyone could come up with a pattern it will really help me too.

Here are a couple of quick photos. This runs a little over 2 1/2 inches from the felt to the base, and about the same width from the board. Of course this can be changed to fit the firearm.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Al, this has given me some ideas for what I want to do. Thanks again.
