Title: Names
Post by: jimbo on June 07, 2010, 03:08:34 am
Most of us use a user name, any reason and where did you get yours from.
I use Jimbo because there's so many people named Jim [my name] my birth name is James but I have always been called Jim, My daughter Susan used called me Jimbo some times when she was a teenager, and thats why I use it.
Where did yours come from??????

My property, Cattle stud & Dog breeding name is Wandandian( pronounced Wan-dan-dian). A legacy from my late Husband. So I have shortened it for the net where I am WandaScroller, W Gardener, W caller, W Pixie(my extra special dog), W photographer etc. depending on the site.

I think mine is easy the beard gives it away (getting whiter by the day).
I have always had a beard (not as a child) and friends and some family started calling me Wizard that stuck for a number of years until I required an internet name and address and so created a whole new identity just 4 the net  "Merlin Ambrosius" Welsh loosely translated (immortal).

Enjoying the "whys" of screen names.  I started using Crabbyboater on a different board a few years ago, and just used it again when I joined here.  The reason is that I owned a boat, and really enjoyed going out crabbing here on Puget Sound near Seattle.  The picture is of me and a grandson with a crab he caught.  I recently sold the boat, which is why I took up scrolling as a new hobby. No, I'm really not crabby at all!  Real name is John.  I'm also known as Grandpa John on others, but there are enough Grandpas out there already.

My nickname is simply the afrikaans abbreviations voor david or dawid as it spelled there. So dawie would actually be davy here. My nephew calls me that so it's like a second name. He somethimes calls me DavyKroket and have used that as screenname as well elsewhere. A Kroket is a dutch snack which I love.

A few years ago before I injured my neck and back, I loved white water rafting.  We went rafting every weekend all summer for several years.  My problem was I was getting ejected from the raft on a frequent basis when we first learned how to navigate the river.  Hence "DUNK" and it stuck.

On other sites I use the name "Steve838", which is my first name and the number of a restaurant I used to manage in another lifetime.  When Steve started this site, I figured Steve838 would be too confusing so I called myself "AnotherSteve".

As I started to get "older" all of our friends children (the polite ones anyway) would always call me "Mr. Ledbetter". I would tell them that my DAD was "Mr. Ledbetter" so just call me Mike. Still being polite they insisted in calling me "Mr. Mike", so now even their parents and alot of others call me Mr. Mike.

when i was still doing construction work most of the work i would do was roofing and shingling.
one of the neighboring town had a hail storm and a couple of friends of mine wanted their roofs done.

well the crew that i had really to kick butts on roof so we would fly when on the roof.  one of the local carpenters
came by one day and watched us work and started to say we look like superman the way we flew around the roof.
hench came the nickname "supershingler".

i have got out of the shingling business but the name just stuck.  i now work in a lumber yard so i let everyone else to the physical work i just write up the orders.

Post by: cornishpisky on June 09, 2010, 04:53:43 pm
My nick comes from the fact i live in beautiful Cornwall UK, land of legend, mystery and smuggling (as immortalised in Daphne du Maurier's book "Jamaica Inn" which is just a few miles from my home) and where the Piskies live (little folk you don't often see), Piskies are known for their cheerful nature and playful mischievousness, they also bring good luck, i'm not exactly little but i am mostly cheerful and love to have a bit of fun!

So thats why i'm cornishpisky!

PS:
Merlin, the real Merlin is believed to have been Welsh and has connections with Cornwall through Uther Pendragon and later his son Arthur who became King Arthur and is believed to have lived here in Cornwall after being brought ashore at Tintagel as an infant by Merlin.

Ok, history lesson over, please forgve my rambling on LOL

When I was a volunteer firefighter I saw a picture of a firefighter fighting a blaze through the doorway. The caption under the picture said something about fire being a living breathing dragon and the firefighter was lord over that dragon so hence the name Dragonlord. I have later learned that Dragonlordwas also a fictional charector in many books and a line of fantasy collectors knives. The 85 at the end of my mick is just the first digits of my zip code since Dragonlord is already used by someone.

OK Folks: Remember some one asked. My real name is Vinson Burke Faulkner. My teachers ALWAYS got the first name wrong, they wanted to spell it "Vincent" - so I changed it to Vince - since Vins sounded stupid ! The BURKE came about because that was the doctors last name that delivered my father and me. The FAULKNER is an OLD English name - which was what the called the person that kept the birds for the Kings - Falconer. See way more then you wanted to know. LOL

When I first got on the internet I used the screen name artistic_cowboy30.  Seem a little lame, but to explain it, I feel I am artistic, the _ was to seperate the words, cowboy...just 'cause and the 30 is how old I was when I discovered (or could afford to access) the internet.
