Hello,
Long time fan of Steve. I started watching him about 08 and always learned something from him. He's also very generous with his great project plans. I emailed him with a question, and he replied back the same day.
I had to stop doing the hobby about 3 years ago due to the economy....lost stuff....bad times...bla bla, you all have either been there , or know somebody with the same story. Anyways, things are a whole lot better now and I'm excited to say I'm beginning to build my dream shop. I was able to save some tools thru the transition, but I still need to invest in some things. Right now I have enough to get started (most important, my scrollsaw!!)
So get ready to see questions from me, I never had a chance to build a shop and would love to hear suggestions from you all.
So hello, and happy scrolling

Hello fellow Michigander, I am Chelcass, living in the Curtis, Mi area in the U.P
grew up in Trenton.
I have built two workshop. Things to remember is build it as big as you have room for and can afford. They just never seem to be big enough.
Decide what tool (scrollsaw, bandsaw etc.) you will need/want for your hobby.
Use good insulation whether you are in a warm climate or cold. It's makes a big difference in you electric bill and comfort. I have a ceiling fan I use when staining or painting and it keeps the shop comfortable.
When wiring you workshop don't put your outlets next to the floor. I put all of mine halfway up the wall. Now I don't have to crawl under a table etc to plug something in.
Before you build decide where you want to place your tools in your shop. Plus you will need storage room, whether using floor space or overhead. Also a display area for your finished items. If you can, set up separate areas, for cutting, sanding, painting/staining etc.
In other words the most inportant part of building a workshop is the planning.
I know others will have ideas to share. Keep us posted on what you decide and Welcome to a great group of scrollers.
