I needed to cut something today - going stir crazy.
I'm still waiting for real blades for my cheap scroll saw. Using the pin blade that came with the saw - seems dreadful, I hope the blades I bought online with be much better.
Only 1/2" wood I had lying around was particleboard, so I practicing cutting particle board, lol. I hope to buy some nicer wood when I find out where around here (grand junction, colorado) I get it.
I like this pattern, since I get humbled by how poorly I do some lines, I remember His amazing grace in helping me finish it in one piece. I'm a total perfectionist, but I can have peace at this stage that if I can read the words at all when it's done I did great on it. ;D
Oh the wood in the background is my desk. Just laid it down to shoot the photo.

Nice project. I use a lot of 1/4" for stuff like portraits and such. I get Baltic Birch ply from Lowes. It is cheap and has a nice look to it. But for more, hardwoods like maple or walnut has a much nicer look.

Nicely done :)
Thanks

Nice work. I remember my first project I made was an Amazing Grace cross. I posted it on Facebook and my cousin loved it and hinted her birthday was coming up. I also remember using nothing but my pin blades. I had my saw for 5 months before I realized I had a pinless adapter for it. I got my blades from Flying Dutchman. Really love their blades. Keep showing us your projects. By the way, my first project was made about 6 months ago.

Very nicely done. Thanks for sharing it with us.

It's very nicely done. If you have ordered the Flying Dutchman Blades, you will find an immediate improvement in your cutting. After that there is only one thing that will help your cutting improve and that is practice practice and more practice. I know it sounds boring, but the learning curve is very steep and you will find your cutting will improve very quickly. Having said that I think you did a great job on the cross especially as you used the pinned blades.

Nice job, I like it. Thanks for posting your work. :)

I got my blades today. wow they're tiny. I can barely see the teeth on these even with my reading glasses. I ordered 3 packages of Ryobi 5R blades on ebay for $4.50 + shipping and I got 9 packages of them today. (108 blades for $6 jackpot!) That's a lot of blades. They are 1/4 as wide as the ones that came with my saw, and no pin. awesome. I just did a test cut and am amazed at the difference in quality. (It was a royal pain to get the thing hooked up in the camp plain blade adapters the first time.) They cut awesome on 1/2" particleboard. Very clean cut. I can't wait to cut something else out.
BTW do blades break often?

If you think those Ryobi blades are good, next time try some Flying Dutchman Blades from Mikes Workshop and you will think you have died and gon to scroll saw heaven!

nice work on the cross thanks for sharing.

Nice cutting. Yup I am a fan of Mike's blades also. Great blades, would you believe I have never broke one..............watch I probably just jinked myself...LOL Can't beat the speedy delivery from Mike.

Nice work. I remember the pin blades but never look back after I used the flying dutchman blades from Mike. Thanks for sharing.

Nice job, simple clean lines.

Nice cut on the cross and I agree about the blades Mike sells. I sold 3 of these crosses today at my craft show. Bobby

Awesome. What do you get for them? What wood/finish do you use?
I was so frustrated trying to use the flat blades with the harbor freight saw - chucking is crazy difficult since the blades aren't attached to the saw and I don't have 3 hands to hold the bottom of the blade on the place it hooks to while holding the top blade and clamp while using an allen wrench to reconnect it - that I went out and bought the craftsman scroll saw. $107.99 at Sears SO MUCH easier to change blades and rechuck. 10 seconds vs 10 minutes The other one was just impossible to rechuck in 20 holes in a piece.
I'm going to recut a new one with the new saw and new blades tomorrow. I'm excited.

well done, thanks for sharing

I got a nice piece of oak 1/2" x6"x24" at lowes today (why don't they have 8"?) I'm going to resize the cross and cut it out of the oak. Should be very nice. How would I finish it?

very nice work there.

I am pretty new at this hobby much like you. Good price you got for your blades. I found it a royal pin to get the blades with my adapter as well, but over time I am getting pretty good at changing blades on it. Hang in there it gets faster as you go. Do blades break often? I have had some blades last a long long time and other blades snap for seemingly no reason. I think it depends on how hard a wood you are cutting and how much patience you have. I also find if I tighten the blade too much they snap pretty fast. I guess it just takes practice and over time we will learn just how tight to set the blade and which blade to use for which wood. Keep on working and sharing.

Nice work. I have to agree with everyone else about the blades.I have bought blades from a few other places and the and only place I'll buy is from Mike's.Try his blades one time and you will never buy from anyone else.

Very nice, well cut.
