Title: How to make patterns

What is the best way to make patterns? What program do you need and such?

There are free software available on the net GIMP and INKSCAPE plus the tutorials can be found on the you tube for both the above. Then there is Steves tutorial in Corel draw ,a little practice and playing around with the sofware will get you started.
