Title: Names
Post by: wombatie on May 22, 2012, 02:38:22 am
I am just curios where did your user names come from?  There are some very interesting ones out there.  Mine is easy I'm mad about Wombats so a friend started to call me Wombatie because I have a large collection of them.  Now lets hear yours.

mine is quit obvious to  me,
Marcel is my first name.
Cellarium is latin for basement/celar and the Cellarius is "keeper of the Cellar".
(don't know why I chose latin, found it nice back then( we only have the cellar for 3 years now.))

having my workshop in the cellar I combined the "cel" from Marcel with the " cel" from cellarius:

tadaa:
Marcellarius

Marcel, keeper of my cellar!

Rob Roy may seem obvious to many if not all my friends here. A Scotsman with a monicker like that!!!! simple, just like me. Not so. On my birth certificate it says Robert, but there was so many Robs,Roberts, Bobs,Berts, Rabs in the family,so I was always called ROY. I think I was named after the Alsatian dog next door. I just combined the Rob and the Roy. Then GABBY came along and added the horse thief bit.LOL.

I know mine is odd LOL. Dali comes from the surrealist painter Salvador Dali whose work I have always admired. I have long been an avid rock climber. That's where the climbs comes from..

A few years back, I had to have both my thumb joints replaced due to arthritis. The doc said to do something that required me to use my thumbs and fingers--I dug out an old dremel 2 speed and the rest is history--now speaking of Gabby, he was giving me a hard time about the aka I use when I sign off, well just for him, I'll change it--Thumbs aka Richard

Mine is just my name.  I used to go by the name dbzmom since I am a Dragon Ball Z collector, but then I got into scrolling and decided to go by my first name and at times with my first and middle names combine, Cherie Lee, which is also how I sign the patterns I design among other things.

Post by: Joleet on May 22, 2012, 10:04:27 am
Mine is more personal. First of all  Jo is my wifes middle name and Lee is my middle name.  Jolee could not be used on the net as another person had it, hence, Joleet which T is for Taylor (last name).  JoLee has been our cattle brand and also the name of our apartment complex for many years.....Ron

Post by: Rapid Roger on May 22, 2012, 12:33:40 pm
My name is Roger and I used to race "Enduro Go Karts" (Yea the ones that you lay down on and drive 80-100 MPH on.) I raced for about 6 years and was very slow at first but as I got better and started winning races people started my nick name of "Rapid Roger" and it just stuck. Most people just call me "Rog" these days.
Now that I'm into wood working for a hobby, several people have mentioned how fast I get my projects done. Not that they are all that good but, I am fairly quick. :)
Concentration is the key to speed.

The Navy could not pronounce the last name as it is spelled, they always use the last name to call you, so they shortened it to "jeff".  Most of my friends use that name but my sister calls me my given name, Bill. The "44" is for the year I was born.

Pretty self explanatory.  I used to do a lot of scuba and spearfishing and used this name on those forums.  Never saw a need to change it even though I haven't been down in a few years.  I will likely go again!
Title: Re: Names
Post by: Proxprof on May 22, 2012, 04:47:30 pm
Proxxon ist the brand from my scroll saw. ==> Prox
Why I came with prof I don't remember (short for Professor/ Professional?)
But I liked the combination from these two, so Proxprof was born.
I used this name the first time on a german site to order Patterns for X-masdecoration and I don't want to have to remember too much nicknames.

I was wondering if anyone caught that.

So, 3B, when you were trying to decide on a name, do you ask, "3-B, or not 3-B? That is the question."

And now y'all know why I don't post much, my humor leaves too much to be desired.

Just Bill.

Growing up here in Maine, when I wasn't in school or doing chores, I was out in the woods with a rifle.  Saw many different areas of the country/world during my military career (22yrs) and nothing ever compared to the Maine woods.  Signing onto this forum I wanted to relay my love of being in and working with woods.

Glen

p.s.  Great thread by the way! ;)

p.p.s BillP, I am another who has missed your wit around here!  Drop in more often, would ya?!

Hey Marg, thanks for asking.  This was a great thread.  Mine is obvious - no imagination.  Like Judy, I was nervous about joining a forum but am so glad I did.

Bill,  I haven't heard that joke in years but when I read "wood eye"  it cracked me up!  It's kinda like mat jokes.

I used to own a boat and loved to go out crabbing, hence the name "Crabbyboater". I'm not really crabby, at least most of the time!  Had to sell the boat and thought about changing the name, but like it too much.  BTW, I sign my creations as Grandpa John.  Started when I gave everything to my grands, but it's not always appropriate when giving to others.

Post by: loftyhermes on May 24, 2012, 06:50:36 am
My forum name came about from when I first started on computers, my niece suffers with Fredrick?s Ataxia and the whole family was tested for the gene and I was told I was a carrier, so I chose hermes, (the UK had an aircraft carrier HMS Hermes :D) but it was taken on some forums so being an installer of loft insulation at the time I added lofty to it and became loftyhermes.
happy scrolling

Mine is my logon name for my email here at work.  I just automatically used it when I joined.

James Cameron is my real name.  I work as a custodian at the university in London, Ont.  I like to tell the students that I really am the movie director, and am just volunteering here because I am tired of all the fame and fortune.
I even had one student ask for my autograph because she believed me.  When I laughed, she realized that I don't even look like the real movie director.
But it gets lots of laughs when I try to tell someone that "I'm working on my next movie".

The story goes, there is Cherokee in our family. Can't prove it though, and it depends on who you talk to. Any way I like the Graywolf and I use it on all the sites I go to. I have a saying about Graywolfs, I will post it here someday.
