The Coffee Shop / Fishing in the South Humor
« on: November 01, 2010, 03:46:43 pm »
Let me emphasize, this is a joke.  No animals were harmed or anything bad happened to them.  In fact I?m afraid of snakes and advoid them.  Let me repeat, this is humor.  Please don?t? report me to the SPCA or PETA or any of those organizations.

That being said, here goes.

I went fishing this morning, but after a short time I ran out of worms. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth. "Frogs are good bass bait" I thought to myself.

Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth, I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket.

Just then, I realized I had a problem, how was I going to release the snake without getting bit? So, I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth. The snakes eyes rolled back and he went limp. I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog.

A little later, I felt a nudge at my foot. There was that same snake with two more frogs in his mouth.

Life is good in the South.

« on: October 26, 2010, 03:05:14 pm »
Trying something new.  This was a lot of work (time).  Hope you enjoy.

I Heard About Your Day

First you had trouble getting out of bed

1

You had a stiff neck

2

You washed your hair and couldn't do a thing with it

3

Your new diet really doesn't seem to be working out

4

You pulled a muscle when you tried to exercise

5

The boss chewed you out at work

6

You got caught in the rain at lunchtime

7

Then the lunch you had didn't seem to agree with you

8

You feel trapped

9

Uninvited guests showed up at dinnertime

10

On top of that, you think you're coming down with the flu

11

And finally, you're alone in the house at night when you think you hear a noise in the basement

12

MAYBE TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER!!

Thought for the Day

Handle every stressful situation like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
Just pee on it and walk away.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Wood Quiz

Wood Quiz--Pls check this version out Russ.

This is a quiz for you scrollers.  Click on the pic to enlarge.

Pics 1 & 2 are a slab 2 ?? thick about 27? by 30?.  It?s a clock (no I didn?t make it) that was a gift from our son several years back.  What kind of wood is it?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

If you guessed Buckeye you?re right.  I guess it?s the burl of the tree.

Pics 3 & 4 may be somewhat harder to id.  Study them before looking at the answer.

Did anyone guess Rosewood?  This is the bud union of a wild rose I salvaged from a pile of brush in No. Virginia in the early 80s when I was stationed at the ?Puzzle Palace.?  Hung it on a fence post for about a year and then cleaned it up, trimed it, sanded it, and finished it with several coats of varnish.  We keep it on the hearth as a conservation piece.

Pic 5 is the third hardest wood there is (maybe some of you can tell us the first 2).  Comes from the mountains of California and Mexico.  The vase was a gift.  The other piece is natural, I just finished it.  Also on the hearth as a conservation piece  I?m no turner.  Have any of you turners put something like this on a lathe?

Yes, it?s Manzanita wood.  Really a pretty wood.

Quiz over.  How did you do?

Brag Forum / Christmas Tree II--A Schwibbogen
« on: October 24, 2010, 09:51:03 am »
Christmas Tree II

Hope I haven't posted this before.  My memory isn't what it used to be.

This is one of my latest schwibbogen.  I call it ?Christmas Tree II?.  See the three pics; light placement and pasties, detail shot, and in a dim room with lights on.  It measures about 18? high and 12? wide.  Cut from 1/8? baltic birch with an  oak base.

I designed this schwibbogen from an actual scwib produced by RATAGS Holzdesign in Germany.

Hope you enjoy.  As always, comments are welcome.
