In Adobe Reader XI when you print  there is a posterize button.

You can then increase the print size and it will print over multiple pages and you can specify if you want overlap and tile marks.

You can only specify a percentage so the x and y access will both enlarge.

You can also open in Inkscape and then enlarge too.  Not sure how print turns out but you could save back as PDF and use posterize.

thanks for the help. that seemed to work ok. i don't know the ins and outs of inkscape or gimp so I utilize paint, inkscape and gimp to alter one pick. :(

Aw heck.  When I want to enlarge a pattern past the capacity of my brain and my printer, I just go down to the friendly local printing store and have it done for a buck and a half, american.  "Staples", "Speedyprint", etc. have machines that you can do it yourself.  Yes I'm a ludite (sp) and non-tech savy.
