Wife paid a rare visit to the shop. Watched me scroll for a while and upon leaving compared my scroll saw to a sewing machine. Divorce is finalized next week.

The Coffee Shop / Belt sander cradle

I've pretty much exhausted all the woodworking sites. Can anyone refer me to a _clear_ set of instructions on how to build a jig for a belt sander (making it hands free)? Cheers, Barry.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Newbie at puzzles
« on: October 07, 2014, 09:47:33 pm »
It was a toss - up whether I posted this in this forum or toys... this forum won. I tried cutting a couple of puzzles today out of 3/8th's MDF rather than 1/4 in. stock. Several pieces were "sticky" and I had to run them back through the saw a couple of times. (Did I say I was using Mike's Puzzle blades?) Am I doing myself a disservice using 3/8th's stock rather than the 1/4 in. Steve recommends... does it make that much difference? Should my blade be tighter or more loose than I usually set it? Should I be running the saw fast or slow? Generally I'm pretty satisfied and it's not a total disaster, but improvement is definitely required! Any and all suggestions welcome - thank you.

The Coffee Shop / To Any Dog People
« on: October 06, 2014, 10:07:13 am »
Rather than see him go to the pound we've taken in a 1 1/2 yr. old min - pin/ Chihuahua cross. He's a really sweet, well behaved little guy _but_  he's forgotten that the place to do his business is outside (the reason he was going to the pound). Any dog people out there care to make a suggestion? Thank you, Barry.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Regarding puzzles

I've downloaded Steve's file on puzzle patterns. No problem understanding applying the picture or photo to the thicker piece of wood, but wonder if anyone with experience could advise on how to more permanently affix the photo as I question how long it's going to stay fastened with regular handling. Could one finish the completed piece with some sort of non-toxic clear coat? Thank you, Barry.

Has anyone tried cutting music CDs, and how did that work out for you? I presume you used a jeweller's blade? Cheers, Barry.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Bow sander
« on: May 31, 2014, 01:19:02 pm »
Good morning. Do any of my Canadian colleagues happen to know where I can purchase a bow sander? I realize I can buy one on-line but I'd rather get one from a Canadian source. I've tried all the hardware / lumber stores in Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon and I had to explain to Customer Service what they were. Cheers, Barry.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Non-toxic paint and stain
« on: May 25, 2014, 01:56:42 pm »
I'm pretty sure non-toxic paints and stains for children's toys have been discussed previously but a search doesn't yield any results. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you, Barry.

Toy Makers / Motorcycle puzzle
« on: April 16, 2014, 09:21:06 pm »
I know I've seen a puzzle of a motorcycle but despite my best efforts can't find a site that sells the pattern. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you, Barry.

Pattern Requests. / Intarsia Guitar pattern
« on: April 16, 2014, 12:10:50 pm »
There was an intarsia pattern in an earlier issue of Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts of several guitars originating out of a central point like spokes from a wheel. I'd like to order the issue but have no clue which issue it was. Any suggestions? Thank you, Barry.

General Scroll Saw Talk / puzzle and jeweller blades
« on: April 06, 2014, 05:58:16 pm »
I'm interested in acquiring some puzzle and jeweller blades. I understood Mike sold them but don't see them for sale on his site. Am I just not looking hard enough? Thank you, Barry.
