Cut from pine. This bank is 10" tall and 7" long and 3 3/4" thick. Sealed with Tung Oil and then top coated with shellac.

The Tung Oil is a 60/40 Tung Oil / Mineral Spirits mix. This slightly darkens the wood and give it part of that golden color. It also seals the grain of the wood. The shellac also imparts a yellow/golden color so between them they work pretty well together.

Great work DW. Love the finish and will try the tung oil and mineral spirits when ever I get around to finishing all of my winter projects.

Love the money box, as the others say a fantastic finish, I will have to try Shellac (never tried it before).

Very easy to use, clean up from. The solvent is Denatured Alcohol so you do not have to worry about spraying an extremely flammable solvent in the air like you would with lacquer. Shellac dries fast, multiple light coats work the best. It will darken with age a bit and become more amber golden in color. It comes as shellac chips, you make your own concentration, or in cans so that you can brush it on or in spray cans. It is not recommend that you use it for being in contact with water as it will turn the surface white.

Looks great. I'll have to give that finish a try. Sounds easy enough. Thanks for sharing.
