General Scroll Saw Talk / Help very much needed
« on: October 21, 2017, 09:37:03 am »
Well what can I say,

I have just tried scroll sawing for the very first time in my life ................... Absolute nightmare.

Firstly my pinless blades kept popping out, On a positive note I am now a confident blade changer and have sort of found the right tension to be able to cut.

This is where I need help. I thought I would remove and round off the corners from some wood to make a small file holder, when trying to cut the wood, it is bouncing around like a kangaroo on steroids,  Is this normal or am I doing something wrong.

It is soft wood a little under 2 inches thick
I have no idea the type of blade as it is the one that came with the saw
The teeth of the saw have the flat bit at the bottom
The speed dial is about half way
I use a foot pedal, I think the speed remains stable so the pedal only switches it on and off I think.

I have not tried it on thinner wood yet as too frightened in case I damage the machine.

Thank you
Gary

Pattern Requests. / Absolute beginner
« on: October 20, 2017, 02:45:21 pm »
Absolute novice here and newcomer to this great forum.

I am looking for a pattern for my workshop.
The workshop only measures 54 inches x 78 inches and we call it the Mini Man-Cave.

Would someone be kind enough to design me a pattern to include the words " Gary's Mini Man-Cave "  This will be attached to the outside of the door.

Thank you

Gary

Introduce Yourself. / Hello from across the pond

Hi folks,
Gary here AKA Shufflex. Thank you for allowing me onto these forums.

I am a 54 year old novice when it comes to scrolling, In fact I have never made anything out of wood in my life.

Now everything is not as smooth as it could be, this is due to having a very small man-cave in fact you could call it a mini man-cave. It actually measures 54"  x  78".

Inside I have,
work table
Scroll saw
Tabletop router table with built in router
Black and decker sander attached to a shelf
a vacuum cleaner to act as a dust extractor when using the machines
Table lamp with flexible neck
Set square
Drill
Screws
Nails
Glue
adhesive
painters tape ( I think thats the terminology)
Packing tape
Stanly knife
Steel ruler
and some screw drivers

Do I need anything else other than wood?

Many thanks
Gary
