Ask Steve a question. / What Font ??
« on: March 07, 2016, 10:17:35 pm »
Can anyone tell me the font used in the BOTTOM of Steve's pattern posted March 7, 2016.  Like a dummy, I deleted it and cannot post the link.

My anti-virus won't let me view the new catalog format & I can't find it there either.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Google "curling clipart" and see if there is anything you can use.

A few months ago, I bought a new foreign made Delta.  Took the new saw apart and greased it according to this video.  THE 788 AND THE DELTA ARE THE SAME INSIDE, BUT THE DELTA IS LESS EXPENSIVE!  Google Parts Schematics for both brands and you notice this.

Ask Steve a question. / Inkscape Question
« on: December 09, 2015, 10:16:45 pm »
I am having fun/frustrations learning Inkscape.
How do you draw curved lines of equal distance apart?
For example:  If I make a (Candy cane)(Sleigh)(French curve), I can make 2 curved lines, but am guessing at the distance between lines from one end to the other.
Is there a better and/or precise way?

Please and Thank You,

jerry

I like the looks of 1/4" solid oak, however, it's frustrating.  Lowes store close by.  Theirs isn't worth buying.  Drive further to 1 of 2 Menards.  It's somewhat better.  All of it warps and is stored in our climate controlled home.

Have learned to rip it into about 3/4" widths.  Turn every other one over (MARK THEM AS EACH IS SAWED!) and glue everything back together.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: Blade pots

I made a sort of "Spice Rack" & attached it to the wall side of where I sit.  Blades in empty drinking water bottles.  Print & scotch tape what blade is on the side of each bottle.  A rubber band around the top & bottom of each bottle.  Store "slightly used" blades under the rubber bands.  Whatever type blade I am using, I turn that bottle upside down as a reminder.  Costs next to nothing and I like it.

About 3 weeks ago I bought a new Delta (made in Taiwan, as are a LOT of brands now.)  Was reading on some of the sites that Taiwan skimps on lubrication.  I watched this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7EWpq3aQeU

And tore apart a brand new saw (It had minimal grease.)  The nut you are referring to needs to come off.  On my Delta, it was so darn tight, it caused me concern getting it off, but it did.  Note that at the factory they hit the edge of the threads with a center punch to flare it slightly as insurance that it doesn't work loose.  The LONG BORING video stresses the fact that if you don't remember that the motor shaft has a left hand thread, it is easy to snap off the end of the shaft.

Best of luck to you Sir.  Hopes all goes well.

Beware!!  On a Delta and Dewalt, this is a LEFT hand thread!!!!!!!!!!!

Your photo appears to be identical.  If you try to tighten it, in the back you see a counterweight (for anti-vibration.)  Hold that with a vice grip and turn the nut counter clock wise to tighten it.

I have a brand new Delta 40-694.  I will echo "whenpigsfly."  Today I was getting the bend on the bottom of the blade, just as he described.  Turns out I was not mounting the top of the blade high enough.  This caused the tightening screw to put a horrible bend in the bottom of the blade.  "Hockey Stick" as he so accurately described it.

Turns out I was too cautious about not leaving enough blade on the bottom.  Problem solved.

Another possibility:  Go to any school supply and buy a plastic protractor.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Help with Baltic Birch splintering
« on: August 23, 2015, 11:44:16 am »
I do not have a need or desire to do stack cutting.  I put a sacrifice piece on TOP, with the 1/8" BB on the bottom.  Tape all around both pieces and put the pattern on the sacrifice board.  That board protects the top of my BB and I don't care if there is splintering on the bottom.

For those of you that stack cut, you could put as many pieces of 1/8" on the bottom as you wish.

Works for me.

Hi Nice Lady,

Just doesn't seem fair that you get all the fun in life, while the rest of us plunder along in a dazed stupor.   :)   :)   :)
