Velvet lining
« on: March 14, 2011, 12:24:59 am »
Does anyone have any experience or tips for lining jewelery boxes and such with velvet or satin, like they used to do with fancy pistols or watches ETC.
Gabby

Diver & GB, I'm really looking for the velvet or satin. Saw the demo for the flocking, and felt won't cut it either but may be what I end up with.
I just don't feel they are classy enough for something that is supposed to be for presentation or display
Thanks anyway.

I haven't used velvet or satin, but I have used adhesive backed felt, and I have flocked several.  The flocking works really well on small boxes.  You can buy it in a number of colors.  It is available online (used to be Donjer products, but I think they have changed names).  Woodcraft carries it as well.

Adhesive backed felt is available at most large craft stores like JoAnn and Michael's...

A bit more precise to apply but not as messy as flocking.

At ArtCrafters, we do custom framing.  On shadow boxes we use fabric faced matboard.  All different colors and styles.  We usually have leftover pieces we give away.  Contact your local custom frame shop and see what they have to offer.

to line it with velvet, I cut the sides and bottom from heavy card stock, then cover them seperatly with the velvet. If you want it to be cushier, cut polor fleece or batting and glue that to the cardstock before covering with velvet.

Judy and Denny thank you.
Judy your response sounds like what I'm looking for.  :) I can probably talk my wife out of some of her batting, maybe even get ther to pick up the velvet or satin for me. Devious I am. LOL
Denny is Artcrafters a website that I can look up? Never mind I found your info after a search on the web.

Thanks for checking out the website.  My son made a display case for his coins on saturday and lined it with fabric matboard.  A beautiful project.

I did find it after my last post here, but it was so late last night I didn't say so.
I added it to my favorites list.
