The Coffee Shop / Scroll Saw Village
« on: July 21, 2012, 01:46:44 pm »
G'Day.  I registered for the aforementioned site some time ago, and now I am unable to log in to access the site.  My problem?  I am unable to find a way to contact anyone with the site to either retrieve my login information, reset it, or do anything.  The contact screen is defunct and does not do a thing.

I have no idea what the username is/was and can't find a method to reset same.

If there is someone here associated with Scroll Saw Village, could you inquire about where to go get reset the login information.

Thanks

Al

Computer questions / Downloading Patterns from here
« on: June 23, 2012, 08:52:56 am »
Good day, just arrived back home - again, and now find my computer locks up every time I try to download one of the patterns sent out by Steve, or on the website.  IE just shuts down.

Ideas?  Suggestions?  Nothing else seems to affect the computer, all the programs are working, just can't download from here.

Saw this one in a magazine and decided to give it a go.  Turned out to be very fragile, but I enjoyed cutting it and putting it together.   The lady likes it....

General Scroll Saw Talk / Help finding parts - please
« on: April 10, 2012, 03:13:16 pm »
Yep, time for grandpa to help out again and this time I have been asked to "fix" a piece of furniture.   Ok, this is NOT high end stuff, but it is what they want and I need some parts.

Is anyone aware of where these rotating catches might be purchased.  I need about two dozen.  I think they are made of zinc, or some pot metal, but they break very easily. They are inserted into a drilled hole in the wood and another piece of metal is inserted into them at a 90 degree angle, then the fastener is rotated via a screwdriver and cam locks the pieces of metal together.  The original furniture was purchased at Walmart in 2006.  The piece has yungsheng stamped into the face.

Any ideas would be beneficial.    Thanks, and may your day go well.   Will try to post photo in the gallery.

Ask Steve a question. / Modification
« on: March 25, 2012, 10:00:44 pm »
I have been following the tutorials for Corel, and learning quite a bit, but I am curious how I would take one of Steve's patterns and modify it.  For example, take one of the NFL football teams and put a high school team name in it.

Obviously I would also inquire if this is permissible.

Thanks for all, the patterns, the tutorials, and the forum.  Quite enjoyable all.

Had a devil of a time posting this, so I put the photo in gallery section.

Walnut, about 9 X 16".  Will get oiled with Danish Oil, and then a poly coat.

Thanks for looking.

I was working on a sign last night and ran into a very frustrating and aggravating problem.  I am using 2/0 spiral blades and have the holes drilled with a #63.  Works fine when the blade is new, however, after sometimes as few as two cuts I find it very difficult to pass the blade through the 1/2 inch thick wood and continue to work.

Seems I am doing something to made the bottom of the blade bend into what appears to be similar to a hockey stick, or an abbreviated "L" shape.  Sometimes the blade will still pass through with some coaxing, other times I am forced to change to a new blade, and the blade is new as far as cutting goes.

Suggestions / recommendations ?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Using Cedar
« on: February 09, 2012, 10:54:34 am »
Good day,

I have obtained a nice quantity of red cedar and have a few ideas for scrolling with this wood.

Looking for information regarding using red cedar, any precautions, suggestions, etc.

I usually use a filter mask, but admittedly not always, and find the odor of the cedar to be quite pleasant.  I have planed a piece down to 1/2 inch.

Ideas?

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Making dowels
« on: January 23, 2012, 09:41:55 am »
Good day.

As a new member here, I am still trying to learn the board as well as the craft.

I would like to manufacture some dowels as the store bought stuff just isn't cutting it.

I am initally interested in making dowel stock from walnut and ash, but so far have not come up with a decent method.

Looking for any ideas on this subject.  Let's see, router, table saw, jointer, scroll saw, radial arm saw, miter saw, various sanders, lots of hand tools, all available to me.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

First, I thank Steve Good for the plans for the project.  I will be looking for some more of this nature as I quite enjoyed this one.

The fuselage, undercarriage, wheels, and prop nut are walnut (the nut is unfinished on purpose).

The other parts are "rescued" oak.

Wow, what a site to obtain information about a new hobby - wood scrolling.

Looking forward to this old man (me) picking up some knowledge and ideas.

Twice retired, now I hope to have the time to learn more about wood working in general, will come here to get more information on scrolling and to ask the questions.

May you continue to learn....
