The Coffee Shop / Scam Notice with todays pattern.
« on: January 16, 2013, 09:17:16 am »
Good Morning Folks,

Just a quick note to express my appreciation to Steve Good for the advice concerning the DOJ ransom scam.

THANK YOU for taking the time to let the forum know about this scam, and there is NO NEED to apologize for putting this type of information on a post about a new pattern.

My opinion.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Band Saw Blades
« on: January 05, 2013, 09:41:11 am »
I gather from some comments that many folks use a band saw to prepare some of their wood for scrolling, and since I at least try to do some work other than the scroll saw (I tend to go back to scrolling frequently), I finally broke down and purchased a new toy (read "band saw").

Question for you folks - what blade size and teeth-per-inch (TPI) do you suggest for use in resawing?  Looking at resawing walnut, cherry, maple and pine (others thrown in when chance allows).

I would also appreciate words on blades in general for the band saw.

Thanks and have a decent day.

Pattern Requests. / Request for a Ford
« on: November 30, 2012, 09:48:24 pm »
Greetings all,

I would like to cut this photo, but again I have no way of converting it to a pattern and therefore seek the assistance of a couple of our fine pattern-makers.  All I need is the pickup and none of the background.

This will hopefully be a gift to a retired member of the USAF.

Thanks folks,

Al

Good evening folks.

I recently saw, and copied the photo of, a sign I thought would be a blast for some of the guys around here.  Trouble being I can't cut the sign from a sign, need a pattern.  Anyone have the pattern that may be shared, or can create a pattern if permissible?

Here is the sign:

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day, formerly known as Armistice Day.

I personally thank all of my brothers-in-arms for doing their part in maintaining the freedoms of our people and our nation.

I salute the men and women of our armed services, yesteryear, today and tomorrow.

May our forces be victorious and return to the country and people they love and defend.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Scrolling a shoulder bone
« on: November 11, 2012, 12:27:12 am »
Greetings

I have been approached on the idea of scrolling an elk shoulder blade with a design.  This would be a completely new experience for me and I would like to hear what you folks would offer for advice and scrolling bone.

Brag Forum / A small project
« on: November 05, 2012, 12:46:29 pm »
Wow, after looking at Judy's post, I am almost embarrassed to post my little project.  But, alas, I did get this finished for a friend and thought some might like to take a gander.

The cut is out of oak, the background is red mahogany stained, and the frame is old barnwood, estimated in the 100 year old area.  Interesting to work with the old wood, some voids appeared that needed to be considered.  Another fun project.

May all have a decent day, and please, go out and vote tomorrow.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Zar?
« on: October 06, 2012, 06:21:16 pm »
Good Day Folks,

Dropped by a local paint store today, one I have never been to, and saw a line of products by a company called Zar.

I would like to hear what the members here have to say about this product.  I did not find their website to be overly informational.   www.zar.com

Looking forward to reading some opinions

General Scroll Saw Talk / Grrrr ^&*#@&
« on: September 22, 2012, 08:38:57 pm »
There I was, happily cutting along and time to change the blade, still know how to do that.....

Repositioned the project, tightened up the blade, and stepped on the foot switch, then I stepped on the foot switch again, and again, .........nuttin'.

Electrical power is present at the wall, the foot switch works (tried it with a radio), and I checked the continuity of the switch on the saw, the switch works.  DeWalt saw, type 2.

Finally got the saw to run when the neighbor came over and we spun the motor with a screwdriver - ran fine - until I turned it off again.  Won't start again.

Checked the brushes and they appear fine.  The motor rotates easily with a screwdriver, and will take off if the power is on when I use the screwdriver to rotate the motor.

Your thoughts???????????

The pattern is from Charlie Dearing.  Charlie, if you are reading this, thanks.

Baltic plywood on top of some heavily stained backer wood, framed with some OLD barnwood that only has nature's finish on it.

More to yer likin' Gabby?   :)  Thanks for the suggestion!!

Good Morning Folks,

I first must thank Judy Hunter for the pattern.  Thank you Judy.

Cut out of 1/4 Baltic plywood, stained at the request of the recipient, placed on another slice of Baltic plywood and surrounded with a cedar frame which was sanded, oiled with BLO and MS combo and finally waxed.

This one now hangs in our home.

May your day go well for you and yours.

With sincere appreciation to Grampa for his fine assistance as he created the pattern is his usual outstanding manner.  Thank you Sir.

Cut from birch plywood and has a mahogany stained background.  The frame is made from an old pallet - oak and reclaimed, rather enjoyed that part of it as well.

Birthday present for my daughter.

Again, thanks to Grampa.

A recent attempt by this old man.  Comments and suggestions for improving are welcome.

Cut out of Baltic Birch ply with a stained background.  The frame, my first, is natural walnut.

Have a fine day.
