Good Day,

I cut this from a piece of oak that was headed for the burn pile.  Swiped it from the neighbor (with permission), cut it down, planed it to 1/2 inch, and worked on it for a couple of months.  This was the project to work on when nothing else was going on, and was NOT a really high priority.

The background is not permanent, just haven't decided what to do with the cutting from here, so I shall open it up for suggestions....

Thanks for taking a look and have a decent day.

Looking forward to some of the ideas here for toys and I made a few starters.  The smaller cars (in front) are cut from cherry, whilst the "larger" pickup in the back is from a piece of 2X4 (pine).

I have considered coloring them, but I hate to lose the appearance of the cherry wood.  Oh well, I am guessing the grandkids won't complain.

Thanks for taking a look and have a decent day.

This was one of a stack cut from 1/8 Baltic Birch Plywood.  The base idea came from this community, and I thank whoever provided the information regarding the base.  Seemed bare without the "frame" on the cutting, so I tried another idea.

Guess I screwed up and accomplished my mission - they both liked it.

Now I have been asked to cut an owl shape to be used for a clock.  Back to the shop.   :)

Thanks again to Mahendra for the pattern, and the green background was a request as her favorite color.  Have a decent day.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Cutting Board Question
« on: July 27, 2013, 07:45:49 pm »
I am going to make a couple of cutting boards - yeah I know it is not scrolling, but some of you do more than scroll - and I am curious what the opinion(s) might be concerning the use of Cherry for parts of a board.  I have plenty of Walnut and Maple and a few pieces of Purpleheart to use, and am thinking of adding something new.

Cherry?

Alas, after cutting the portrait on one I don't understand - I find I am asked to cut another.

Mahendra provided the first pattern, however I am going to submit this photo to all who would be willing to try a pattern.

I know there will be at least one more to follow, but will cross that bridge later.

Thanks for your attention - and may your day go well for you and yours.

Al

If this is not adequate - would be willing to try another shot.

This is a follow-up to the baby cross, yep this is the Mom.

My sincere appreciation to Mahendra for making the pattern for me, thanks Mahendra.

1/8 " Baltic Birch ply (triple stacked), used a 2/0 spiral, and took my time.

Thanks for taking a look and may you have a pleasant day.

Hi folks,

I cut this one out of 3/4 inch American Elm for my granddaughter.  The width is approximately 9 inches and the height is close to 17 inches.  Took a while to get it accomplished, but I am thinking it should last a spell.

Daughter does not any backer, frame, finish, etc (wish I could figure that kid out), so I shall leave it alone.

Thanks for taking a look

Ask Steve a question. / Multi page print in Corel

Albeit this section is labelled for Steve Good, I am looking for some help from anyone who has the answer.

I have designed a sign for over a doorway which measures 35 inches wide.  I believe I have that part done correctly, however, I am NOT able to get the scroll design to print.  I always get only one page, and can not figure out how to get the whole string of letters to print.

Suggestions?

Brag Forum / This one was trying...

Not sure what I am going to do with this one.....  Close examination will show some really odd looking cuts, and a couple of places where I cut through.  I found the wood density to differ in some places  and the spiral blade was difficult to maintain, hence the cuts through the pattern.  This was a request - I guess I will let the person see it and decide.  Sigh - Not all days are golden.

Brag Forum / Polymer Parrot
« on: March 09, 2013, 07:08:19 pm »
Hi all,

I read about this technique and I was intrigued.  So I tried it.  The oval is roughly 6X11 inches and I used 1/8" Baltic Birch (BB) plywood.  I glued the cutting to another piece of BB and filled the cavities with different colors of polymer clay.  The item was placed in a 275 degree (F) oven for about 13 minutes, removed and allowed to cool.

I sanded the overfill clay with an 80 grit Random Orbital sander, then switched to 150 1/4 sheet sander.  Note:  Make sure to over fill the cavities if you want to try this idea.  Next step was to apply some 50/50 mix of Boiled Linseed Oil (BLO) and Mineral spirits.  It is still in the drying process and I plan to apply about three coats of shellac.

Not a great example, but I wanted to try something and I am not overly displeased with the results.  I am going to give this another go with a more elaborate cutting of a different parrot and take more time in setting in the clay.  Another suggestion:  make sure you knead enough clay for the area you are working in, an addition to the area shows up on the sanding.

Thanks for taking a gander - stay safe out there.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Band Saw Blades

Just bought a band saw - retroactive Christmas present - and I am looking for the group's opinion on which blade(s) are the best out there for wood work.  Primarily will be re-sawing, but will do some figure cutting as well.

Your suggestions are welcome.
