Keep in mind true baltic birch only comes in 5x5 sheets, if its 4x8 baltic birch its veenered plywood with baltic birch. I can get smaller pieces of baltic birch at a craft store but its a little more costly that way I am sure but its the closest place for me to get it.

If your wood is jumping up and down you may have the blade installed in upside down. If blades keep popping out you may not have the tension set, also blades come with a tad of oil on them when shipped to keep them from rusting, a dip in some rubbing alcohol will l remove the oils and help keep them from slipping out.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Advice for Led magnifying light
« on: October 17, 2017, 10:56:05 pm »
The one from harbor freight might see if can numbers off the bulb and see if there is a led replacement or shoot I have one now in my room setup for a small bedside light I could look and see what numbers or brand I could find. Or can go to HF website and look up the lamp, go for the high cost one its better, I looked at the cheaper version and didn't like it so opted to go with thin it was about 30 bucks and fo rme its worth it.

I bought a mag light setup from harbor freight has a clamp on the base of it to clamp to a stand or table and I love mine, helped alot seeign where I was cutting, plus I used it for other stuff in the shop not just scroll sawing, pulling splinters out of my finger, seeing small parts when working on mowers anything I needed to see that was small I looked under that mag light to made it alot easier. Mine takes a cfl round bulb if there is a led replacement when I need I will go that route untill I will use it till bulb goes out.

I actually wen tback and bought another for the wifes crafting so see could see to work on small stuff plus haveing the light right abover her to light up the work table helped her alot. Both lights work great and have not giving any issues and both still have the same bulbs in them when we bought them.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: Question on making a pattern.
« on: October 14, 2017, 12:08:51 pm »
There are two free programs you can use inkscape and gimp. There is a learning curve, I tried a couple times one picture I made a pattern out of I did ok with but struggled with adding text to it, I then tried to make a portrait of my cat it was alright but I wasn't happy with so I gave up for now trying to figure out how to do it.

Also to make it easier to change a picture to a pattern the more clear and higher resolution the picture is the easier it is to work with, if not when you zoom in it pixalates where you get these blocks when you zoom in, thats using gimp, inkscape is a vetor program and won't do this when you zoom in to manipulate the picture to clean it up.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: New Tabletop for my EX30 Scrollsaw
« on: October 10, 2017, 07:38:48 pm »
One thing about my EX16 I don't like is the table top, mine would leave behind the gray paint it would rub off on the back side of the work piece it sanded of easy but still and to me the table top is not really smooth, I have thought removing the paint and having it machined smooth, but also at the same time thought about find some thick lexan teh same thickness or maybe a litte thicker and use it as table top but worried the lexan would vibrate unless some ribs were  mounted under side to stiffen it up.

Maybe one of the days when I have some extra money and time I venture into a experiment to see if it will work. I have also wonder if that table top was smooth then maybe chrome or nickel plated if it be slicker or at least easier to wax to make slicker rather then whats on there now.

Mine I covered it in a piece of formica which is what is counter tops, found some at my local home restore store traced out the table shape used the scroll to cut it out then used carpet tape to hold it down and has worked fine, when waxed its pretty slick plus made it a near zero clearence hole.

Practice, practice, practice. Get some cheap wood or scraps to practice on, and take your time don't rush it, you will enjoy it more. Scrollsawing is a fun hobby and one that can be relaxing. For me it helped me relax alot more so when I got anxious or was having a hard time from having anxity attacks I could sit at the scrollsaw and all my worries would go to sawdust.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: UPDATE ON ....STICK N PEEL.... :+}

I had that issue using tape even the full sheet shipping labels, why I mentioned a old credit card or even gift cards work great for this even spreading glue. Old used gift cards are everywhere.

What kind of problems are you having to get it on? You can go to hobby lobby and look for what they call a brayer, its bascally a roller with a rubber compound on it. Can use it to roll over the peel adn stick to lay out flat, or find type of something like a old experied creadit card to get all teh air bubble out.

I used gull sheet shipping labels print on it, peel and stick, covered in clear packing type 2 reason, to keep the ink from smearing and for me allows me to gripe to project to move, without tape my fingers slide to easy on the paper.

Make sure the wood surface does not have dust or anything on it to keep it from sticking. When I cut my blanks I would sand them a tad to get them smooth then used my air gun from compressor to blast off any dust left behind and wiped it down to make sure it was clean before sticking anything to the wood to make sure it would stick. But stil pending how intricate of a cut I had or how close I was to another cut my painters tape would still lift off, only thing I found that would not lift off was full sheet shipping labels once stuck on it does not come off unless I used a hair dryer to heat up the paper to soften the glue on the back side.

Thats the bad thing with the laun wood, its got a pretty red tinge color but any tape peels it off is thin slivers, I used it alot since it was red in color and had this issue alot mostly at the edges.

Sometimes peeling the tape off slow and at a angle prevented it but it still happened. Soemtime the veener don't get glued good and will peel off.

I went to using those full sheet shipping labels. Print on the label stick it down cut, then to remove it I used a hair dryer and heat up the label and it would peel off with just the weight of the wood and nothing would come up with it.

Computer questions / Re: Computer Problems
« on: August 30, 2017, 10:57:01 pm »
If you get a new computer what are you wanting? laptop or desktop? Me if going laptop get a HP, I had a dell and about 2 years of using it the screen messed up would really dark could barely see the screen had to use a external moniter. I now have a HP and love it, its about 4-5 years old still runs great and still runs pretty fast. I ordered straight from HP to get the latest software and hardware, its what I was told by a computer guru. For desktop same thing go HP, my other half has a HP desktop and still runs great, no issues and its about as old as my laptop. I also had a HP desktop before going laptop's that lasted about 6 years before starting having hardware issues and it crashing and got too slow.

Computer questions / Re: Norton removes Keychain maker as virus
« on: August 30, 2017, 10:46:19 pm »
I gave up norton years ago, it was slow, was a resource hog, ate up memory and just slowed the computer down, and even let virus in. McCaffee was same way a resource hog. I used avast for a long time but it went under alot of changes and went downhill. I now use microsoft security essentials and malwarebtes. Never had any issues since, other than a program I had to use to download music from youtube was caught by maleware bytes as bad so they must of changed something in the program to get flagged.
