Hey there!

Here is another fun project.

As I pointed out here I got to order some "veneer mix" along some other wood. The postman brought a pretty huge pile, which was a pleasant surprise for me (to the Europeans: designerholz.com ). I have not identified all the types yet  :D

So today I tried to cut the veneer (each ~1/50" thin (metric 0.5mm) - like thick paper). I used 2 plywood 1/8" as a "sandwich" to support the veneer.
Taped it as Dan and Sheila told me in the other thread and started cutting.

First cutout ended with some hearts popping out:

There is no doubt, this was going to be fun!
So I carried on and as I saw the result, I was absolutly delighted:

And you know what happens if a scroll sawer gets excited... EXTREME STACK SCROLL SAWING!  ;D  :o  ;D  :o  ;D

I sanded them firmly and added oil to get the structure of the wood. They are pretty stable, didn't expect that.
The wood is nutwood, zebrawood and mahogany.

regards
Torsten

Torsten, they came out great. The good thing about stack cutting veneer, is you get a lot of projects for your effort.

That's great work. I've been thinking along these lines also, how many did you stack together?
Any problems you encountered?

I stacked the 11 bookmarks you can see in one of the photos - plus 2 x 1/8" plywood for support.

The veneer is really thin, just like thick paper or a thin board. A dozen of layers add up to just 1/4".
