Microsoft Office Question.... :+}
« on: September 11, 2012, 06:34:59 pm »
Our last PC (gone) had Microsoft Office-Excel-Spreadsheet etc. and I really got into the Spreadsheet portion.  Kept a going thing for lots of things.  Anyway I am not wealthy enough to buy the advertised Microsoft Office that pops up sometimes.  I have been checking into good ole GOOGLE and it looks like there are lots of FREE software out there.  I am always leary of downloading ANYTHING.  Could you suggest a Safe Download of this?

Thank-e in advance....  Danny  :+}

I know there is one out there called "Open Office" it's free and is supposed to be comparable with MS office. I haven't used it myself so if anyone knows how good it is please say so.

I use it sometimes on my home computer. It does the job quite well.

Open Office will do everything you have done with MS Office including opening your old "Office' files.

I have used it for years and Katie also uses it.

Completely FREE and VERY SAFE!

Just make sure you use the official link for download or get it from <majorgeeks.com>.

Danny:

GB is right on about Open Office.

There is also another option available to you. You said your old computer is gone, but do you still have the installation disk from your old version of MS Office? If so, you can install and run that old Office on your new CPU. For example I'm running Windows 7 (64bits), and was initially running Office 97 on it until I got a really good deal on  Office 2000, so I upgraded. I'm very happy with 2000.

Open Office is about the best you are going to get for a Freebie...  Not exactly the same, but you will get to grips with it in no time.

if you fancy looking at a few tutorials on it's use to compare functionality,

I truly want to THANK Everyone for their inputs.  Majority lead me to Open Office which I did install yesterday.  And I was simply amazed that the OLD FILES from
the OLD PC that were saved but could not open are able to be opened by this
Open Office I installed.  Had so, so many very important documents that I had
saved over the years that I thought were GONE FOREVER.  Now I have opened all
and safely added them to my NEW DOCUMENTS.  This is SO GREAT.  Thanks....

That makes my day, Dan!

Always glad when something I suggest really helps someone...and so happy that you were able to salvage your files!

glad to have been able to help (albeit not by much) but also pleased that you have "rescued" the old files you thought you had lost
