Welcome Roger, What part of Sweden are you from?  My Grandparents came here from Sweden and I still have many relatives living there.

Crash, I'm sure we'd all like to see more pictures of your work; It's always interesting to see the various types of projects others do.

Looking forward to seeing them.

I just looked at the Sand Flee, model 0904 this past weekend. I think it is the original one, without the micro adjustment, and Rockler's price, in So. CA. is 399.99 which, in my opinion, is priced way too much, for the size. and the material it's built from.  I think Norm's Stockroom Supply Kit would be a much better buy at almost half the price for a similar size. (18")

All our troops need to be remembered every day and especially on Memorial day!!!  Each house on our whole block has flown an  American flag continuously since 9/11 and we'll keep them flying until our boys come home.

God Bless Them ALL

Intarsia / Wanting to try Intarsia
« on: May 27, 2010, 01:50:00 pm »
I've been reading back posts, in the various sections on this forum and there seems to be a lot of people interested in trying to make Intarsias. If you are one of them, now is the time to start! I started in1992 when i saw this "Cat On A Limb" pattern and instructions, by Judy Gale Roberts, in "WOOD" magazine and I was hooked, once i finished the project. Prior to that I hadn't touched a scrollsaw in years, except to make one Segmentation picture of a Humming Bird, just to see if the saw still worked. If you have any questions I'm sure someone will be able to answer them.

Another idea; Some Flower Shops will take items on consignment that customers can buy and give as gifts along with the flowers.

Hi Scrollgirl, Yes I have been making my own patterns for several years and love it. I've probably made close to 100 from my patterns.

To Rapid Roger, When I want a Dark color, like Black, I prefer using Black Walnut; It's a whole lot easier to cut and looks good finished. Ebony is very dense and weighs about 65#/cubic foot; It would be a real Blade Eater, LOL

This is an Intarsia I made from a picture of my first car, I bought it back in 1949; The upper picture is there to show I put celluloid, clear Plastic, in the car windows; I also put a door in the backer so I can change the background picture when necessary.

Hi Steve and all others wishing to jump in and start enjoying the world of making Intarsias, go to http://intarsia.net/   and scroll down to the left side of the page and click on (Intarsia E Book). If you follow through all chapters it will take you from start to finish in creating your first Intarsia.

I hope this helps

Newtoscroll, JGR, www.intarsia.com has a couple of "Duck" patterns you may want to try: #I85 is a "Pup With Decoy" that you could easily leave off the Lab Pup if you just wanted the Decoy Portion; It is a Beginner/Intermediate Pattern and #I24 is a "Duck" Pattern which is a Intermediate Pattern.
