Title: Switching from a two speed to variable speed
Post by: Ric Nickels on April 13, 2021, 04:39:58 pm
I have a 24” Craftsman two speed scroll saw. Can I convert it to a variable speed saw.

Ebay has  Rheostat Electric Foot Pedal That you might make work

If it has a universal motor brush typr a rheostat type of control will probably work. If it doesn't have brushes the rheostat will cause the motor to burn out.

I agree with Jimm. If it's a 2 speed saw, I would guess that it is an older model. A rheostat switch would probably burn out the motor. Anyway, good luck on whatever solution you seek.

I did some reading on the 2 speed motor.  I read that the 2 speed motor has two windings.  One for the low speed and one for the high speed.  It will only run on one of those two selections.  It cannot be changed to variable speed.
