Linking to a previous thread
« on: July 23, 2011, 10:42:58 am »
Is there a way to link to a previous thread when replying to a question.  There is a current question on this board about scroll saw tables.  I posted my ideas some time ago and can find that post using a search on "authors".

How do I link to it when answering the current question?
best regards,

Hey bud, At the top of your browser there is a box with the current page address. It will look something like this: http://stevedgood.com/community/index.php?action=post;topic=6523.0;num_replies=0
Right click on that with your mouse. The address will be highlighted and a box will pop up. Left click on "copy". When your ready to add the link, right click again and the box will pop up again. click on "paste", and you links should appearer on the screen!

Hey Dan, I've been wondering how to insert a link too. Will this work to link to any website? What about linking to a video on Youtube? I know how to do a lot of things on computers, but this is one of those things that I just never learned how to do.

Yes. It will work for any address that is in the box at the top of your browser. The link will stay in your clipboard until you paste it somewhere.

Reminder about the Clipboard in XP ... I don't now about Win 7.
It will stay until you Paste it somewhere OR until you Copy something else to the clipboard.

Thanks. I felt kinda stupid asking such a basic question, but if you don't know the only thing to do is ask.

The code used on forums like this is called BBCode (Bulletin Board Code). It has got own formats, which the server behind the website can simple detect and parse into what he needs it to be.

Check out the examples here:

The only stupid question I ever asked was "Will you marry me Kathy?"

If you use the clipboard a lot here is a very useful free program that extends the clipboard..
http://www.yankee-clipper.net/download.html
Its easy to set up and use.It will hold hundreds of items copied that will be there until you delete them.
