The Nativity display that was offered today (9/5/18) requires 1/4” thick material. I am lost what to use for that requirement that present a nice look without a ply edge look. Any advice I’d appreciate as to material to use ? Thanks so much.

Greetings,
You can purchase 1/4" hard woods or you can plane or sand wood down to the thickness you desire.
I've heard many people recommend ocooch on-line for lumber purchases but, I have not used that service.
A quick search in my area shows Menards, Home Depot, and other big box stores carry 1/4" lumber.

Hi Bucko
I don't see a location entered. It would be easier to recommend suppliers if we know where you are.
I am just outside Toronto, Ontario, Canada and I use Woodchuckers. You never know what you can get. I usually get 1/4 maple and cherry there and the odd time Walnut. They do mail order too. Ask Peter for what you need.
I am going to do the nativity scene but will probably do in 1/4 maple.

Thanks for the replies, I’m located in Toronto Ohio. I was thinking Maple would be an excellent choice but the project adds up to a fair amount of material and that was my hesitation.

You are right about the amount of material.
The small one is 6 layers of 6" by 5" The large is 9 x 7 1/2
I think I will cut in BB so see if I like it first. I may end up painting.

I’ve printed out the patterns and will give each one some thinking towards a wood that mat suit the appearance presented by the pattern. By doing this I may have the amount of 1/4” material here on hand.

I have used Ocooch hardwoods several times and have always been happy with them. If you need, you can also request a specific thickness of wood to be planed to. Just email them to get the price and usually they reply quickly.

Over on Scrollers Café "driver' posted the one he cut.
He reduced to 3 3/4 to make use of the wood he had. Changed the front to walnut. Looks cool

Today I ordered some wood from Heritage Wood Specialties for this item and I should have material left for other use as well.
