Intarsia / free wood scraps
« on: March 18, 2024, 12:35:20 pm »
I've collected a box (3-4 pounds) of assorted scraps from other projects that I deemed were too large to throw away, but too small for most scroll projects.  It's mostly 1/4" - walnut, cherry, maple, poplar, basswood, oak.  Also are some 3/4" pieces of mostly oak and poplar.  I don't do intarsia, but I think these pieces could be useful to someone so-inclined to pursue intarsia.  I'm in Temple, Tx - pick it up or pay the postage and it's all yours ... the price is right!

Pattern Requests. / aircreaft pattern
« on: November 20, 2023, 08:21:30 am »
I'm now looking for a scroll pattern for a Lockheed Constellation.  I've found models, but no scroll patterns.  An uncle flew one in Vietnam and my aunt was a stewardess for TWA in the 60s on those birds.  It would make a nice Christmas gift for them if I can find a good pattern; the more detailed the better, of course!
any suggestions?  thanks!

I'll certainly try that.  thanks for the input.  I have the same problem - but not as bad, when I wipe down a trivet after wiping it down with mineral oil.  I'll put the bag of rags in the washer today!

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / "lint free" cloth?
« on: January 10, 2023, 01:20:02 pm »
Does a true 'lint free' cloth exist?  I bought a bag of rags at Lowes - the bag states "Lint Free".  However, when I stain fretwork, the excess stain has to be removed before it dries.  When I use the Lowes rags I get a lot of residual fibers on my work that has to be painstakingly removed, a fiber at a time from most of the cutouts.  this increases the project time considerably.  I'm looking for alternatives.  thanks.
