Grandpa's F16 Fighting Falcon
« on: February 20, 2012, 05:33:33 pm »
Grampa posted this really cool F16 pattern in the patterns section, I just made a stand for it. It's made out of 3/4" Mahogany and oiled 50/50. Not sure yet if I'll give it a coat of lacquer or not, cus it's just so darn pretty as is!

Thanks Paul for the pattern.

Awsome cut, well done, I dont think it needs any more doing to it, but it looks like dark red Meranty to me though.

Hey Iggy, You might very well be correct, this piece was given to me by a friend that told me it was Mahogany so I really don't know. By no means am I a wood identification expert, in fact I never heard of Meranty before. So thanks for the heads up.

Very nicely done.  I know a couple of F16 drivers that would love to have that.  Thanks for sharing it with us.

That is one nice plane.  I looked at it up close and the lumber really looks like Brazilian Mahogany.  I had a man that was at one of my shows and he took my card and showed up at the house an brought me 14 pieces of Brazilian Mahogany.  He just gave them to me, and that plane really looks like it.

Thanks all for the great comments, as far as what wood it is, I don't know, all I know is I have a bunch of it and it looks good.

As far as the pattern goes, it was a tough one to cut, the letters are extremely small and delicate. I just made a new pattern that should be easier to cut with stronger letters, I'm going to cut another one tomorrow out of what I know is Walnut. So I thought I would share the updated pattern with everyone here.
