My greatest challenge ,,,so far.
« on: August 08, 2011, 03:50:03 pm »
Some time ago I posted some inquiries about the Eiffel Tower. I ordered the pattern from Wildwood Designs in the spring and have been sitting on it ever since. The pattern looked intimidation to say the least, 22.5 degree angles, 27 degree angles, exact cuts,  miter cuts etc . Two weeks ago I decided this is it and I went into the workshop with the pattern under my arm. It was challenging, and frustrating at points and a lot of cutting. Toward the end the lower jaw of my Roibi gave out and I could only use #5 or heavier blades. But I was determined to see it through. Today I am proud to say it is done. The angles were the greatest challenge,  it had it to be perfect,  when the sides were fitted it should form a knife edge join. I am proud to say, I have knife edge corners. It is cut from 1/4 oak plywood. The next one will be 1/4 solid oak.  I made it for a French teacher at my school and I plan to have it into her classroom before school starts in Sept.  I have posted two pictures, one of my work and one from Wildwood Designs to compare to.
 Moral of the story:
" When you believe in yourself, anything is possible"

Looks fantastic Clyde, I have always wanted to make one of these or the big clocks, but the angles scare me  :o Did you use a disk sander to get the angles?
Your patience and determination will be rewarded when you see the look on the face of the teacher once she see's this.

I was amazed at now easy this piece was, The angles were done on a belt sander. The one I have has a fence that can be set at different angles. A feature I discovered just last week. Ain't life grand!  Thanks for all the comments, now I think I will look for a church to build ;)
