another project complete
« on: August 26, 2012, 03:46:47 pm »
I have been posting this in the intarsia section, but now that it is complete I thought I'd add it here. I started this one a few months ago as a drawing I made on Paint. It is my first project of this nature and over all I think it turned out pretty good. It is a birthday gift for my mother in law. The sky and water are blue pine, the lighthouse building is soft maple and padauk, the ground is cherry. The windows and doors are walnut and the chimney is scented cedar. The cliffs are made out of zebra. Had a lot of fun making this and a few moments of needed forgiveness when things didn't quite go as planned.

Very nicely completed project.  The best part though will be the look on your Mother in Law's face when you give it to her.   Intarsia is all about patience... of which I do not have enough of hehe. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Nice work! Someday maybe I'll try intarsia if I can get results like you do. Fantastic!

Nice work Troy! Good wood choices and a nice pattern. Looks like you need a little work on fitting the pieces together, but with a little practice you'll get there!

Yep, doing a bit of research on fitting things a bit better, but for my first project I think this will do. Will try another intarsia in a few months...have some more projects to work on first.

Hey, I think u did a nice job on your first intarsia. I just finished building my spindle sander stand and I am ready to start my first intarsia project. Sure hope mine turns out half as good as yours did. Thanx for the inspiration! Pattern choice,,,, decision, decision, decision....this may take longer than I expected.lol
