Brag Forum / Doctor Who
« on: October 07, 2011, 09:38:34 pm »
I made this a couple of weeks ago for my brother's birthday! Grandpa Paul made the pattern for me, Thanks again. My brother loved it. He lives with a few friends and they have a wall in their place set up as an scroll saw art gallery. Doctor Who, The Kool-Aid-Man, Billy Mays and something else adorn the wall. His roommates all say he has the coolest sister (although at least one of the roommates is an only child, i'm ignoring that fact  ;) )

Bonus points - after my mom showed the picture of my brother and I to a coworker, I sold a copy of the cutting for $150.

Computer questions / dvd ripper
« on: July 29, 2011, 12:18:24 pm »
my computer died and with it went the dvd ripping program I had used. I am pretty sure it was a program I had downloaded and paid for, but can't remember or find it now. Do any of you have any recommendations of programs I can use?

I made this project for my husband for fathers day. I cut the fretwork out of galvanized steel flashing. I found a pack of 10 5"x7" pieces for a couple bucks at Menards and have been waiting for a project to use it. I cut the steel using a wood steel wood sandwich and it cut really well.
I mounted the steel to a painted wood backer and to the other layers using epoxy.
The pattern I modified from a pumpkin carving stencil I found online.

Brag Forum / Veggi Welcome
« on: June 04, 2011, 11:44:56 pm »
This is the project that I was working on today. Tomorrow I will give it to my cousin for a wedding shower present.
The veggies are modified from a pattern in one of the magizines. The origninals are garden stakes, I just cut the stake part off and mounted everything to a backer piece of wood.
This project took way more time to paint then to cut, but it was fun to do. all the pieces are 1/8" plywood.
I was planning on leaving it with out the frame as more of a stand alone plaque, but it looked a little unfinished so I made the frame from "Picture frame molding". I think it finishes the project well.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Whittling
« on: May 30, 2011, 05:03:35 pm »
A friend asked me if I knew anything about whittling kinves. I really don't but said I would ask around to see if anyone I knew could help.
So...Do any of you know anything about whittling knives?

Pattern Requests. / Wizard
« on: May 19, 2011, 09:19:23 pm »
One of my highschool students has an interest in doing a fretwork type project once his main woods project is done. He said he wanted to do some type of wizard design. I found one in my stash of patterns, but I think it is a little more complex then this student will want to tackle. Do any of you know where I might find an easy wizard pattern?
Thanks from me and my student.

Brag Forum / Grampa's Rainy Day
« on: May 02, 2011, 12:26:12 am »
This pattern is from Grampa Paul. I started cutting it last weekend. I have been busy, so only cut a few pieces at a time here and there through out this week. I have cut in the rain, snow and bright sunshine. It is a fitting pattern for the weather lately.

I stack cut 3 from 1/8" plywood. While I was cutting part of the hat broke on the bottom piece. I don't have a need for the bottom cutting, but I thought I might be able to save it by cutting the whole hat out. I am not sure if I like it or not, what do you think? Is the second one a creative design element or firewood?

Do you drill all of your holes at the same time? Or drill some, cut some, drill some, cut some.....?

It is cut from 1/8? Baltic birch, with a black background and is 11?x14?. The frame was in the clearance section of Michaels for $4

A while ago "Triple B" posted a picture of their cat they wanted help making a pattern from. Grandpa made a pattern, and I loved it. My mom loves cats so I decided to make it for mothers day.
The thread with the original picture and pattern is here http://stevedgood.com/community/index.php?topic=5391.0
Made with 1/8" baltic birch ply and a backer of ply stained "early american".
Thanks Triple B for having a cute cat, Granpa for making the awesome pattern and GreyBeard for the glass in the frame ;) What would I do with out all of you guys?!?!

The Coffee Shop / Is the forum behaving oddly?
« on: April 12, 2011, 01:28:31 pm »
Is the forum behaving oddly for anyone else?
I can't seem to get to the page where I can choose which catergory I want to look at (coffee shop, brag forum...) Usually when I click on "home" or "general catergory" I go to a list of all of the catergories and can see which ones have new posts. But now the page looks similar but with out the list. Is it just me?

Brag Forum / Welcome Sign
« on: April 10, 2011, 07:33:31 pm »
I used Sue Mey's new letter set to make these welcome signs.
One is 1/2" mahogany and the other is 1/8" baltic birch plywood.
To make the backer for the plywood one I used a flat washer against the word and traced around. The washer keeps the pencil an even 1/2" away.

Pattern Requests. / Golden Retriever
« on: March 31, 2011, 04:46:46 pm »
I had a request for a golden retriever ornament to celebrate a late pet. Do any of you have any great leads on places to find/buy and dog breed ornaments, or pieces that could be cut smaller. I am currently at work and have a severely filtered internet and my phone, so not the greatest pattern finding abilities.
Thanks for any help finding

Brag Forum / More Cutting Board Projects
« on: March 30, 2011, 11:42:20 pm »
I made these two projects over the weekend. I found bamboo cutting boards that have a lighter band on the ends, they make neat projects. The board is just under 1/2" thick.
Thanks

I made this today while I was snowed in.
It is 1/8" baltic birch plywood, the top layers are stained "early american" and the background is normal plywood. Finish is spray laquer.
Elsewhere on the forum, CNLNC posted a request for a video of someone cutting. I happened to think that I could set up my tripod and film the process. I was a couple of cuts into the project when I started and the camera battery died before the end, but I did get it on camera. There is no talking during the video, just the saw.
