General Scroll Saw Talk / Excalibur 21 Question
« on: February 02, 2013, 09:35:29 am »
Since this is Saturday and Ray @ Seyco is not in, I have a question for you Excalibur owners. There is a small white plastic set screw in front of the white tension lever that for some reason has vibrated down on my saw. Can anyone tell me what this screw is for and the correct position? I screwed it back up a little, but don't know the correct position? I need to cut today and hope to correct this.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Blade For 3/4" Baltic Birch?
« on: January 30, 2013, 09:38:40 am »
Most of my projects have been cut from 1/8" to 1/2" Baltic Birch. Now, I have an order for 8 large crosses, and the lady insisted on 3/4" wood. So. I ordered the 3/4"(12" x 24") and began sawing yesterday with a FD-UR #5 blade and found it to be slow going! So, I ordered some FD-UR-#7 blades from Mike; hoping the sawing would go a little faster. Maybe I am just too impatient since I have not cut anything thicker than 1/2". LOL Anyway, your thoughts on this would be entertained!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Rapidresizer Program
« on: January 23, 2013, 09:18:09 am »
I tried out the free trial program of Rapidrisizer yesterday and love what I could do with resizing patterns that I had on my computer. Has anyone purchased this program and is it worth the cost? I have Gimp and Inkscape for photo conversions, but this program seems to be better just for line patterns. Any feedback would be appreciated!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Sales Tax Permit/Credit Cards
« on: January 10, 2013, 05:28:57 pm »
I received my Texas Retail Sales Tax Permit today and immediately started receiving calls from credit card companies wanting me set up an account so I could accept credit cards. I had my phone number removed but could not remove my address, according to the state office. I think I will go to my bank and let them advise me. I would appreciate any ideas and advice from you fellow scrollers.

The Coffee Shop / Break Time!
« on: December 24, 2012, 09:07:20 am »
Break Time! Break Time!  Well, it is time for a break! Made all the gifts and the retail ornaments, etc. I just received a new contract for crosses and stand up figures, but, will have to wait until after new years! I want to cut something for myself now and relax. I scroll for a hobby, but, sell enough to pay for tools and wood. I want to work on some native american portraits for my wife and friends, so, the contract will just have to wait for a while. Merry Christmas EVERYONE!

General Scroll Saw Talk / How Do You Scroll Large Pieces?
« on: December 19, 2012, 06:10:48 pm »
Ok, I have been scrolling since March and have seemed to improve to the point I want to try cutting something larger than 12" x 12"! LOL I tried to cut a cross that is 12" x 18" and could not spin the wood without hitting my big belly so I stood up and then could not see well enough.! use a Ex21 saw so the throat is deep enough, but, how in the world do you still see how to make your turns, etc,? My saw is on a stand and I use a foot switch and I have a light and magnifyer. I am hoping you experienced scrollers can give me some techniques that will help.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Pictures of Last Show Today
« on: December 01, 2012, 08:17:41 pm »
Well, today was my last show for a while! YEA! I really did enjoy it though, and met a lot of nice folks! Sold a few items ($372.00), and was there for about 7 hours. It is amazing how folks just brag and brag on the scroll art and just turn around a walk away.LOL I did enjoy explaining how things were made and how much enjoyment scrolling brings to me and my wife. I made a contact with a wood supplier who sells a variety of exotic wood and would be willing to cut and plane it for me, so I will drive to his mill after the first of the year and see what he has in stock. Thought ya'll might want to see my display, which I have got to figure out an easier way to display the ornaments. The pegboard is trimed in 1x1 and the stand dor it is 2x4. Got to find something easier to carry and set up!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Last Show of 2012!
« on: November 28, 2012, 09:46:50 am »
Well, my last show of the year is this weekend! YEA!! I have a 2 day show this weekend and am glad it is the last one for a while! I enjoy making items to sell, but, after a while, I just want to "play"! I see a lot of interesting patterns from ya'll that I want to try and some of my own creations I want to cut, without being on a "time clock". I guess what I am saying, it is time for the hobby side of scrolling now. I did not get into scrolling to sell my work, but, it "just happened".LOL So, until next summer, I can play with my saw! YEA!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Arts and Crafts Show Today a Success
« on: November 17, 2012, 08:09:05 pm »
well, today went pretty good at our local arts and crafts show in Paris, Tx. I had a booth inside facing the entrance so my booth was the first people saw and I believed that helped. Also, I was the only scroller selling. Ornaments went pretty good at $4.00 each, sold several figures in the $7-$15.00 range. I did sell a few wall plaques in the $20.00 range. All together, around $550.00 for 7 hr show. I know this not a very large amount, but, I was pleased. Heard the attendance was around 3000.

Computer questions / Best Router?
« on: November 07, 2012, 09:00:14 am »
My router has bit the dust. Sometimes it works and right in the middle of something I am working on, it goes off line. So, I need advice on what to purchase? I do not want to spend over $100.00. Any suggestions?
