Brag Forum / Sweet Corn Special
« on: August 02, 2012, 11:09:12 pm »
This was one of those small quick compound projects I just had to do for the fun of it.  I was asked by a fellow scroller what the small flecks are in my pine tooth.  I told him I don't floss. :]

Brag Forum / Sarced Heart/ Scroll Saw & Carving

Came up with this "design" after a souvenir metal I where. There are 4 layers. It is all bass wood except the "Crown of Thorns" which is cheery.  The Crown was scroll sawed, filed, filed, sanded & sanded more. [I never thought I'd finish]
So here it is - I bare my "Heart" before you :]

Brag Forum / Playful Pug
« on: July 20, 2012, 10:32:17 pm »
Took this challenge form a fellow scroller to do this Pug designed by Deborah Nicholson in Creative Woodworks & Crafts, June 2012.  Intarsia with all that sanding & different woods has not been appealing to me.  But this little guy was within my "comfort zone". Hope you like him.  If your a cat person - sorry  :)

The Coffee Shop / Guns over Women

Top Ten Reasons Men Prefer Guns Over Women

#10.  You can trade an old 44 for a new 22.

#9.    You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you're on the road.

#8.    If you admire a friend's gun and tell him so, he will probably let you try it out a few times.

#7.    Your primary gun doesn't mind if you keep another gun for a backup.

#6.    Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.

#5.    A gun doesn't take up a lot of closet space.

#4.    Guns function normally every day of the month.

#3.    A gun doesn't ask, "Do these new grips make me look fat?"

#2.    A gun doesn't mind if you go to sleep after you use it.

And the number one reason a gun is favored over a woman..........

You Can Buy A Silencer For A Gun !!!

And remember:  Guns have only two enemies.....Rust and Politicians !

General Scroll Saw Talk / New Delta 40-690 questions part II
« on: February 27, 2012, 11:36:30 pm »
Love the new saw but have two questions. First, not having a removable plate requires that I get on my knees to see the bottom clamp and since there's no bottom to the clamp device my blades keep falling to low.  Has anyone come up with a solution or do I just have to "cowboy up" ?  Secondly, I remember talk and seeing that "magic lift" [that gets the upper arm out of the way when threading] which I now find would be really helpful - but of course, Alzheimer has again prevailed. Where do I look.  Thanks in advance for the help. Brian

Ask Steve a question. / My photo's won't attach with replies
« on: February 01, 2012, 11:05:59 pm »
Steve- I am able to reduce my images to fit on the "Gallery" but when I try to include them into a thread reply they won't apply. I just tried to load a 127k photo and the rule stated it couldn't be larger than 128k. What am I missing??
Thanks    and [Ps - thanks for the great site]  Brian

Brag Forum / The Sacrifice
« on: January 20, 2012, 06:37:50 pm »
This project has been done for awhile now but the first "good" snow here in Sioux
Falls, South Dakota has kept me indoors so I'm brag-en. I consider this my 1st creation although I got the inspiration from an art piece depicting the execution of 16 Discalced Carmelite Nuns July 17, 1794. [See if you can count the Sisters on the Cross posted in the Gallery] I made this for one of my wife's and my good friend, Sister Mary Agnes of the Monastery in Alexandria, SD, for her silver jubilee.

The Coffee Shop / Happy Thanksgiving
« on: November 23, 2011, 03:14:26 pm »
A game warden was driving down the road when he came upon an old man carrying a wild turkey under his arm.

He stopped and asked the man, 'Where did you get that turkey?'

The man replied, 'What turkey?'

The game warden said, 'That turkey you're carrying under your arm.'

The man looks down and said, 'Well, lookee here, a turkey done roosted under my arm!'

The game warden said, 'Now look, you know turkey season is closed, so whatever you do to that turkey, I'm going to do to you.

If you break his leg, I'm gonna break your leg. If you break his wing, I'll break your arm. Whatever you do to him, I'll do to you. So, what are you gonna do with him?'

The old man said, 'I guess I'll just kiss his ass and let him go!'
.................................................................................
May your stuffing be tasty,
May your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes and gravy never have a lump,
May your yams be delicious,
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!..and don't mess with old people.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Ask Steve a question. / Dust mask evaluations ???
« on: November 07, 2011, 12:53:15 pm »
I'm very interested in your evaluation of the two masks you've brought to our attention.  The Totobomast sounds most efficient but at cost of having to replace filter.  I like being able to wash the dust-be-gone  mask. Is the "tighter " mask really that more efficient ???  Thanks Brian

Introduce Yourself. / It's a small world
« on: October 21, 2011, 09:45:08 pm »
I'm blb from South Dakota and have been scrolling for about a year.  I bought a $50 2 speed 16" saw last spring [92' model] and find I can't finish one project before another catches my eye.  Forget that the lawn needs mowing of bills paid. I just want to be at my saw.  I scrolled at the local county fair this summer with a fellow scroller and totally enjoyed myself.  There are a lot of kids and adults who really enjoy seeing the 2 of us scroll [we took our saws].  My biggest advantage is that my friend Duane had given me about 2 dozen back issues mag. with of course, free patterns by top designers. The write-ups and instructions are most helpful for us newbees.  I'll be checking back in from time to time - keep the dust flying.
