Brag Forum / Steve's "Running Girl" clock
« on: February 08, 2015, 09:48:01 pm »
My Daughter-in-law runs. So for her Birthday I cut Steve's clock. I made a couple of changes mainly a pony tail & a ball cap. She loved it & took it to work for her desk. The upright is 1/2"oak and the base 3/8" walnut.  Thanks for looking & any comments.  Brian

Brag Forum / Suspended Wine holder
« on: August 15, 2014, 08:58:11 pm »
This wine holder has been on my bucket list to cut for some time. Designed by Gary MacKay in Summer issue SSWC '08. I made this for my boss for Christmas '14. His wife told me they have 32 bottles around their house - as decoration [sure]. This will be a little more practical than gifts of past years. Thanks for looking   Brian

General Scroll Saw Talk / Sioux Empire Fair '14
« on: August 14, 2014, 07:35:09 pm »
Summer fun for two South Dakota scrollers; Silver Sliver & Dakota Saw dust. For the last 3-4 years Duane & I have packed up our saws and taken them to the Sioux Falls Fair.  We set them up in the "Arts & Craft" hall to show visitors what scrolling is all about.  I've included 3 pictures.  The first is Duane seated at his saw with some of his projects on the table in front.  He likes 3-D bird house and small cuttings.  He gives away small animal cutouts to the kids - that's one reason his saw is low - the kids like to get right up and investigate and Duane is at his best with them. He has done this for the last 10 years. This year he could hardly keep up with cuttings of a horse.  It was only natural with all the 4-H involvement at the fair.  The second pic is a little of my end of the display table. We like to take a hodgepodge of projects to show people the different types of scrolling they might like to get into. We get 2 or 3 names each year of people interested in coming to our small once a month meeting. The third pic as they say is a "selfie "- what vanity  :)  Thanks for looking.  Brian

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Epoxy ???
« on: July 10, 2014, 11:42:32 pm »
I'm trying to glue a 3-D dragonfly to a metal beret for my granddaughter.  I've read in a number of places to use epoxy E-6000.  I've look at Ace hardware but they have too many "special" epoxies. Can anyone direct me to E-6000 or an equivalent?  Thank Brian

Brag Forum / Wedding Gift
« on: July 02, 2014, 06:43:02 pm »
With the design help from Sheila Landry & Keith  Fenton, I have a finished wedding plaque ready for THE BIG day. This was a little more demanding to follow the pattern lines.  But all ended well. Excuse my one arm being longer than the other for patting myself on the back. It was one of projects that started out a challenge but soon advanced [somewhat].  Thanks for looking  Brian

General Scroll Saw Talk / Small Vac for scroll Saw?
« on: June 25, 2014, 11:42:14 pm »
I've had a small hand held vacuum [which was a wedding gift 50 years ago] clamped to the underside of my scroll saw and it has worked fine. HOWEVER, i can now hear the bearings and know the end is just around the corner.  Question?  I seem to remember a writeup/video on a new small powerful vacuum that is suitable for our use.  Can anyone point me in the right direction? - or was this another of my hallucinations?

Brag Forum / Three Blind Mice
« on: June 19, 2014, 04:15:57 pm »
This is one of Steve's Patterns with a few alterations. When a friend stack cut a few, I got the idea for the 3 blind mice. Now the question is for the younger members of the forum.  Most young people I've shown this to don't know the nursery rhyme.  Google it  :) and enjoy my variation.  PS I want to put them a piece of cheese but lack the imagination. Any ideas ??

General Scroll Saw Talk / Hole repair
« on: June 14, 2014, 11:18:54 pm »
Started one of Sheila Landry 's Self framing projects. Of course it requires a blank entry hole [angled] to cut out the center part. I found that I don't like the size of my entry hole. It is small but I would like to fill it.  I've saved some of the maple saw dust for mixing with glue. Now here's the question.  What glues have been tried that don't show up?  I will not be staining this, only applying a clear sealer.  Thanks for any input in advance     Brian

Brag Forum / Segmented Flag with Eagle
« on: May 15, 2014, 02:43:46 pm »
I like simple and Frank Droege's Segmented Flag fit my taste. I made a few changes; no blue border, raised the stars 1/8", and found an Eagle to "float" over the flag. Thanks for looking.  Brian

Brag Forum / This Little Piggy
« on: April 24, 2014, 07:53:35 pm »
Just had to make this "easy" looking project of Steve's.  Because I'm not as accomplished a cutter as I thought, I spent way more time sanding the three layers than I'd like to admit to. But it was fun.  Thanks for looking.  Brian

Brag Forum / Valentine for my bride
« on: January 11, 2014, 02:45:12 pm »
Now that Christmas is over I found this years project for Valentines Day in Feb. '14 Creative Woodworks.  Again, another Sue Mey design.
When it comes to Valentines i seem to pick a design by Sue Mey.  I reduced the size by 5% to fit a piece of Alder I had and finished it with Butcher Block Oil.  I also drilled a hole in the back if she wants to hang it up.  Thanks for looking.  Brian

General Scroll Saw Talk / My new "lift" in life
« on: January 08, 2014, 09:40:59 pm »
Just had to mention my Christmas gift of "The Lifter" on my dewalt.  This is better than sex [at my age] or the invention of sliced bread. This brings more enjoyment to those multiple fret cut. PS this is not a paid commercial.  Brian  P.S. Thanks The Melster _ without your direction the Pic won't be possible.  ;)
