Nice work, Mr. SW.  You made that poplar look good.  Every time I stain poplar it comes out awful looking, with green in it.   >:(

Is tung oil like the Danish oils?  Does it come in different "flavors"?  If so which one did you use?

Thanks for any info. 

Tung Oil that you can get in Lowes or Home Depot is what I use.  It has a thinning agent built in so when you apply it it is like a penetrating oil.  It comes in satin or high gloss.  I try not to stain poplar because of that.  When the Tung Oil is applied it will deepen the natural coloration of the wood a little so try it on a scrap piece to see if that is what you want.  Apply only thin coats and once it is dry, allow about 6 hrs for it to dry, you can top coat it if you wish with Varnish, Shellac or lacquer.

Nice bowl DW.  Tried those but couldn't get them to come out right for some reason.  Good job and thanks for sharing with us.
