Steve's Scrolled Mini Clock
« on: September 02, 2011, 01:14:07 pm »
Two weekends ago was our woodworkers club annual summer BBQ. I always do a demonstration on the scroll saw. This year I decided to do Steve's scrolled mini clock. At the BBQ, we always have a silent auction where members donate something they made to benefit the club. I decided to donate the clock once it was finished. I gave the winner the option to take it home with her, or I would take it home and apply the finish. She opted for me to apply the finish. So here is the completed clock. Made from 1/2" Mahogany. It took about a half an hour to cut, and cut with a Flying Dutchman UR #3 blade. Finished with my 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. Top coated with Deft semi gloss spray lacquer.
The picture was taken in my new light box. Still experimenting with it!

Looks great, Dan...

are you using translucent white sides on your photo box?

Seems like quite a bit of 'front lighting' thus bringing out the red of the mahogany.

I'm making one over this weekend! Photo studio box that is.

Here's what I'm using GB: www.cowboystudio.com/product/c10/p10-05.php
I took several pictures with and without the flash. I don't know if I used the flash on this one or not. Like I said, still experimenting.

Very nice Dan, both the clock and the Cowboy light box. Have fun playing with it, you'll be taking pic's like a pro in no time.

Nice work Dan!

If your flash was camera mounted, I'd have to say you didn't use it on this pic based on visible shadows, unless you were using a bounce card.  MHO

It looks good Dan, I like the finish, did they pay a fair price at the auction?

Jimbo, There was a bidding war! Several women were bidding a dollar at a time. I think it went for around fifty Bucks or so.
