Brag Forum / Playful Pug
« on: July 20, 2012, 10:32:17 pm »
Took this challenge form a fellow scroller to do this Pug designed by Deborah Nicholson in Creative Woodworks & Crafts, June 2012.  Intarsia with all that sanding & different woods has not been appealing to me.  But this little guy was within my "comfort zone". Hope you like him.  If your a cat person - sorry  :)

Really like your 'bent toe ".  My objection to "big foot" is in it's placement so close to the blade. it might be ok for installing a new blade but not threading through a new entry hole on say a 12 sq. blank.  Your approach gives more available space from the blade to your "toe"  Thanks for the idea. It's on my to-do list.  :)

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: Steve's wheel truing jig
« on: April 29, 2012, 11:43:22 pm »
Dgman - good add to Steve's wheel gig but I just finished 24 mug lids with a slight change to your miter slot addition.
i found the miter slot bar still had some play and the cover around the sanding disk interfered with the entry.  I achieved my goal by extending the jig out past the table on both the miter slot and left end sides.  After I sanded the first flat with the jig back a good 1/16+", I stopped the machine, temporarily clamped it in place, and attached two stop strips to the bottom of the jig on the front and left end.  This allowed me to return all 24 pieces to the exact position before I clamped it down and started to turn the blank. There was no ware or tear on the jig and I'll store just in case the client wants more. Brian

The Coffee Shop / Guns over Women

Top Ten Reasons Men Prefer Guns Over Women

#10.  You can trade an old 44 for a new 22.

#9.    You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you're on the road.

#8.    If you admire a friend's gun and tell him so, he will probably let you try it out a few times.

#7.    Your primary gun doesn't mind if you keep another gun for a backup.

#6.    Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.

#5.    A gun doesn't take up a lot of closet space.

#4.    Guns function normally every day of the month.

#3.    A gun doesn't ask, "Do these new grips make me look fat?"

#2.    A gun doesn't mind if you go to sleep after you use it.

And the number one reason a gun is favored over a woman..........

You Can Buy A Silencer For A Gun !!!

And remember:  Guns have only two enemies.....Rust and Politicians !

Kenreich - "dry time" is that time between spraying on the adhesive and when you finally apply the pattern. I've found that if a attempt to touch & pickup a pattern with one finger tip and it sticks to my finger really good - I haven't allowed it to dry enough. Remember, the more adhesive and the wetter it is - the firmer it will hold to the wood.  Good luck  :)

Crupiea's correct.  FD Mike told me of this same process. If he does it I should be able to make it work. After mannnny tries, I found it takes very little adhesive and a great amount of dry time.  I once forgot my time and I had one of the easiest removals after a 40 min. dry time.  One thing Mike adds is the clear tape on top. It lubs the blade and aids in holding the paper together when removing. On one project, I wanted to paint the blank before cutting so my edges were clean with no paint when I finished.  I took a chance [I really hate designer fire wood] and applied the sprayed pattern directly on the water colored Aspen.  It came out fine with no lifting of the paint.

I just take a blade of the same size and top feed down and manually pull it up a couple of times - seems to clear it out for bottom feeding for me.

Thanks Guys  Guess it's top feeding from now on - kind of like that approach anyway.  As for the lifting mechanism, I hold off on that until I get used to top feeding. Thanks again  Brian

General Scroll Saw Talk / New Delta 40-690 questions part II
« on: February 27, 2012, 11:36:30 pm »
Love the new saw but have two questions. First, not having a removable plate requires that I get on my knees to see the bottom clamp and since there's no bottom to the clamp device my blades keep falling to low.  Has anyone come up with a solution or do I just have to "cowboy up" ?  Secondly, I remember talk and seeing that "magic lift" [that gets the upper arm out of the way when threading] which I now find would be really helpful - but of course, Alzheimer has again prevailed. Where do I look.  Thanks in advance for the help. Brian

Ask Steve a question. / My photo's won't attach with replies
« on: February 01, 2012, 11:05:59 pm »
Steve- I am able to reduce my images to fit on the "Gallery" but when I try to include them into a thread reply they won't apply. I just tried to load a 127k photo and the rule stated it couldn't be larger than 128k. What am I missing??
Thanks    and [Ps - thanks for the great site]  Brian

Hay fellas. Women just may be smarter than us. First we asked God for them AND gave up a rib. Secondly, as illustrated we taught them to talk. Lastly, we let them vote.  When will we learn.  ;)
