Hey Brian, as you have found, lemon oil does not fully dry. Lemon oil is not designed as a finish, it is for cleaning or polishing. As tony mentioned, a lot of scrollers use a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits.. The oil brings out the color and grain of the wood and will dry in about 24 to 48 hours depending on humidity.
You should be able to put a topcoat of shellac or spray lacquer on your current project. I like Deft semi gloss spray lacquer.
If you decide to go with the 50/50 mixture, make sure you don't get the "echo green" mineral spirits as it is milky. You want pure clear mineral spirits. I mix up a quart of oil and spirits at a time and store it in an old mason jar. Good luck.

Everybody on this forum does scroll work. Your request does not, unless you follow Russ's suggestion which will not save you any time.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Which blade to use for cutting a 2x4
« on: June 02, 2013, 07:47:36 pm »
Hey Mad, Blade selection, saw speed and feed rate are all subjective. It is all up to you! First, I would start with a #7 skip tooth blade or a reverse tooth blade. A FD UR #7 or an Olsen skip tooth #7 or reverse tooth #7. Start with a medium saw speed. If you feel the cutting is to slow, speed it up. If you can't stay on the line slow it down. As far as feed rate, let the blade do the cutting. if the blade is deflecting more than 1/8", you're feeding to fast. If it won't cut, speed up the saw or use a larger blade.
Good luck

Hey Thumbs. Good call on checking that. It is called an anvil. It is not recommend to use a petroleum products on O rings though. Vasoline is petroleum based. Petroleum based products will degrade O rings. It's actually best to just clean the O ring. The best lubricant for O rings is silicone. But if you use it you risk the chance of contaminating the anvil and your wood. So just keep it clean.

The only tip I can offer is to stop in the Smokey Mountains for a few days. If you do, you may change your mind about Florida. Have a safe trip. Are you retiring?
Hey Dan, we have smokey mountains here in So. Ca. But they usually put them out in a few days!  :o ::) ;D
Golfman, I have never been to Florida, but a lot of forum members live there. Can't be all that bad!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: FD-SR-2/0
« on: May 31, 2013, 11:28:05 am »
The FD-SR is not a spiral blade. It is the Scroll Reverse blade. I love most of the FD blades that I have tried except the SR 2/0. I ordered a gross of the SR 2/0 a couple of years ago. I tried every combination of saw speed, feed rate wood thickness and wood type. I could not get it to track properly. I could not stay on the line even with the highest tension possible on my DeWalt DW788. So I gave them away to a member on this forum. Again, I use mostly FD blades, but when I need a 2/0 blade, I use Olson blades.
