General Scroll Saw Talk / Good solution if you are having trouble with wood burning. Even using packing

tape to lubricate your scroll saw blades, some woods such as cherry and maple tend to burn. The darkened wood is hard and next to impossible to sand away. I run into this problem every year around Christmas time. Particularly on thicker wood which compound patterns require.
I normally use Flying Dutchmen reverse blades. 90 percent of what I use are 3's and 5's. However, I have found that Pegas makes a blade called a Modified Geometry Reverse blade. It is the best blade I have found to keep wood from burning. It is better than any skip blades I have found, either Olsen or FD, for not burning. I hope this helps someone. Pegas used to advertise in SSWC and perhaps they still do. I buy mine at my local Woodcraft.

I go to Wall Lumber about twice a year. I live north of there in Virginia. It is a really nice place. If you are close enough by it is worth a visit. Steve Wall is a great guy and all the people I have met there are very helpful. It is one or two old brick warehouses, they may have once been textile warehouses given the location, and they are loaded with all varieties of wood. A fun trip and a honest company to deal with.

Does anyone remember seeing any Christmas patterns with shepherds in them? I have an elderly neighbor, in her 90's, and I always make her something for Christmas. She asked this year for something with shepherds. I have most of the scroll saw magazines from the last five or so years, but need help finding this. Or if anyone remembers seeing one for sale just let me know where. Thanks.

I use Baltic birch 1/8" plywood and like Don R, I stack cut three pieces. I have used both Ocooch and Sloans', they are very good suppliers. If there is a Woodcraft store near you, they have Baltic birch in different sizes and you want have to pay shipping cost. Be careful and don't buy Finnish ply, it looks the same but is crazy expensive.

I think I remember seeing these in one of the magazines. But I can't seem to find them. Any help is appreciated. I can make the patterns if necessary but the ones I remember were just right. These are for my grandkids first grade classes.

I use Titebond and apply it very carefully, to keep it from showing. I have not tried it, however you can get E6000 at Woodcraft. I tried Aileen's, with the same results as Danny, it didn't stick well enough.
