General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Scrollnado

I wish you luck in getting in touch with Chris.  He has a great product but zero customer service.  I tried for months to get hold of him with no luck.  Fortunately a friend with two systems helped me out.
I'm guessing you have a problem with the connection under the table.  Didn't you get several spares with the package you purchased?  I have at least three plus that many tubes for the top side.
Try going onto Amazon where he sells.  I contacted him thru there and did a response.  No help but it was a response.
Good luck.

I can't seem to get the correct length for the wire.  Please give me a rough length so I know where to start.  Thanks.

I used a block of wood for awhile, but then got a Jim Dandy.  Sold the JD when a tech at the DeWalt service center simply tighten the bolt at the pivot point on the upper arm.  Try this.  It works.  Adjustment is very, very slight so go easy.  I have heard all the argruments about how this could damage something or another inside the machine.  For over five years now nothing has happened to my saw.  Hope this will save money for a few people who are willing to try something new.   :)

IF I sell any, it's at $3.00.  I have more fun at my shows asking people if they know what it is.  I give away more than I sell.

A six point star is easy to make, but what are you looking for in your Star of David?

A group of us scrollers are going to work with some special ed students next month and I need a practice pattern.  I have one with a straight line, several curve lines, several 90 degree corners, etc.  But I have seen one, somewhere, that has a straight line for about the length and then gradually goes into some slight curves.  I really like this approach to teaching someone new.  Any help would be appreciated.

I got a kit from Stockroom Supply at a show last April for a similar sander.  The price of kit is around $200.  Add the parts I needed to buy and I figure the whole thing costed me $250.  It is 18".  Check it out at www.stockroomsupply.com.  I love it and it sure does make the wood flat.

Introduce Yourself. / Re: Hi from Sugar Land, TX

Thank y'll for the kind comments.  I have new pics to add and I haven't even updated my show schedule.  I have to get out of the shop one of these days.   ;)

Cherie, it took me two weeks to cut it out and five weeks to put it together.  After all that cutting I was very careful when it came to the assembling.  The pattern is available from Wildwood Design.  There are three in the series: my gondola, ferris wheel, and carnival swing.  My teacher has done the ferris wheel.  It is great.  We use them as "attention getters" at our craft shows and they sure do work.

Duke, the elegant cross is a Dirk Boelman design.  Check him out at the following:

I have done several of his patterns.  He has some wonderful patterns.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: blade getting dull
« on: April 19, 2010, 11:55:16 pm »
John, I tell people that when you start pushing the wood into the blade instead of guiding the wood into the blade, it is time to change blades.  You felt the difference when you put in a new blade so you will be able to get to the point that you will feel when a blade is getting dull.  Blades are cheap.  Don't be afraid to chance them.  You are doing fine.

Larry, yes, yes, yes, you can adjust that bolt so that the arm with stay up by itself.  Please don't waste your money on after market rigs.  I had one, but sold it when I learned I could adjust the bolt.  I was told how to do this by a DeWalt shop tech so that is good enough for me.
