I have two shop vacs, a Craftsman I use in the garage and a Fine, that was given to me, in my shop. Both work good, but the Fine is much quieter.

Besides using the Fine for general cleaning it's hooked up to my scroll saw and it turns on automatically when I turn the saw on and then runs for about 3 seconds after i turn the saw off.

If your buying, on a budget, I'd recommend the Craftsman. I've had mine for several and has always done a good job and the replacement filters are readily available.

The two things I would look for is power and quiet

I have a fairly old Rigid 6hp wet/dry vac.  It used to bug me that the filter would plug up with small dust.  I had to clean or replace regularly.  The filters are not cheap.

About 2 years ago I added a Dust Deputy.

Best move I ever made.

In 2 years, have not replace a filter as I have not even cleaned out the vac as everything goes in the Dust Deputy and the vac runs a full power.
