Nicole -I love my bandsaw. Since I am semi-retired, I have more time than money. That led me to pick up an old Craftsman 12" bandsaw whose previous owner had passed away. It was in great shape for $60. Its the perfect complement to the scroll saw. It won't resew more than about 4"-6", but that is enough for what I do. You might keep your eye out for a good used bandsaw on FB Marketplace or CL if you are handy. A 14" is better, but they usually cost more and are a bit harder to find. I have a big tablesaw, but it scares me when it starts up. The bandsaw is a much more civilized machine.

This is my first scroll saw project. A Steve Good Pattern

Cut it today on my Porter Cable with a #5R Reverse Skip blade. Its scrap wood 1/2" (pine I think) from a salvaged old dresser drawer. Some of the cuts look like a beaver chewed them, but I was happy I only broke one blade pulling it out of a cut hole. There is a learning curve to this hobby  for sure. Looks like I have to do some sanding and finishing and get a candle tin before Valentine's Day.

Hello All. New Member here. I'm a semi-retired consulting engineer, meaning I still work if a paying client calls me, but I don't market my services anymore. I live in a suburb of of metropolitan Atlanta.

I've been slowly trying to outfit a very small shop in a room off my garage. I got interested in scroll saws while looking for a used bandsaw. One thing led to another and soon I found irresistible deals on an old 16" Craftsman and then an almost new Porter Cable 18" scroll saw, which now live in my garage. I'm currently working on getting better at blade changes in the PC.

I used to be (pre-pandemic) band that played music in nursing homes, but that scene is pretty much on hold until this pandemic is over. One of my dreams is to build a guitar and a ukulele, but reading about scrolling has me interested in the many simple scroll saw patterns and intarsia. I blame that on all the many excellent videos the Gwinnett Scroll Saw Group has on YouTube. I live in an adjacent county to Gwinnett and may see if I can get to a meeting of that group some post pandemic day.

Anyway, glad to be a member of this forum. Thanks for having me.
