in response to cherie's comment......

the price of the program seems reasonable, and from steves tutorial video it looks pretty simple to use. simple and easy is what I like, cause I'm not to good with high tech stuff lol. here's the link from steves blogspot with the coyote stencil tutorial (hope its ok to post the link, if not I'm sorry).

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: What types and thickness wood do you use
« on: April 21, 2010, 06:28:21 pm »
I use 1/4 and 1/8th baltic birch. I'd like to try (experiment) with other types of wood later on. I have been purchasing my wood from a regular seller on ebay for awhile now, cant seem to find anything local near me.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: wood chipping during cuts...

I also have had the similar problem. Majority of the wood I use is baltic birch. I've notice though that the chipping occurs if I tend to rush or push the wood to fast, but slowing down does help. I also use flying dutchman blades from mikesworkshop.com.

Great work on your pattern and finished piece. I've never made my own patterns before but after watching a tutorial by Steve using the Coyote program it looks somewhat simple to use. I plan to purchase it very soon.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Dust Collection
« on: April 21, 2010, 07:28:55 am »
I also have no type of dust collection, other than a cardboard box sitting under my saw to catch the knockoffs. You would think with the price of a Dewalt that there would be a dust collection port on it somewhere, but even without the port i wouldn't trade mine for anything (I'm still grinning like a kid at Christmas over my new saw lol).

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Dewalt DW788
« on: April 19, 2010, 05:04:17 pm »
I just recently upgraded to the Dewalt 788, I purchased mine on 3-24-2010 from amazon.com for 498.99 that included free shipping. Already had my own stand and didnt need to purchase one. My precious scroll saw was a craftsman that lasted for many years. The first time i turned on my Dewalt and started cutting, I was grinning like a brand new dad. Someone asked me how did I like it, I replied that it was like driving a new cadillac. Only broke a few blades so far, but I'm very pleased with my Dewalt. Low vibration, very quiet, easy to change blades are some of the perks of the Dewalt. Hope you enjoy your new saw as I do mine.

Pattern Requests. / Re: New Patterns?
« on: April 19, 2010, 07:57:01 am »
Hi,
How about some scroll portraits of music entertainers and actors or wildlife. I started out learning how to cut those and they are still my favorite overall. But I love trying new patterns of other things as well.

Thanks

Most times I just use polyurethane and have just recently started trying a few wood stains also.

Hello All,
Im from Vicksburg, MS. I've been scrolling for a few short years and just upgraded from a craftsman to a dewalt scroll saw (someone asked me how do I like my new dewalt, I replied that I feel like I'm driving a new cadillac). I try to scroll daily. Thank You Steve for all the hard work you do and bringing fellow scrollers together.
