What do you do to make a living
« on: June 03, 2010, 11:48:46 am »
I have often wondered what other members do for a living--So I'll start--I'm a bum--retired from UPS after almost 30 years--been retired for 11 years now and love every minute of it--now that my wife is retired, we will go on a trip just to be going--I'm quite happy with my life as it is--Richard aka thumbs--P.S. I hope everyone will join in on this

THAT is not being a bum! THAT is doing what you earned the right to do!

I retired twice!
Now am an active volunteer for the city in which I live, OASIS organization, member of the St. Peters City Senior Advisory Commission, Setting up a series of computer classes (basics) for seniors through the state MEAA (Mid-East Area on Aging...Missouri), etc.

Retired from the PRINTING business. Was a shop manager, pressman, did all functions in the small shop, then finished my 'career' as a sales / customer service rep.

Before that i was a facilities and buildings manager for two financial institutions, Purchasing Agent for three different organizations and had my own home repair business for a number of years.

Very diverse work background!

Gemini's like variety!!!
I never really wanted to grow up....All I wanted was to be able to reach the cookie jar...and play with my DW 788

Retired Captain Firefighter/Specialist 28 years, been retired 9 years. Own a Construction Company (LGC) 10 years. Not much construction going on so I do Wood Working for extra money to go fishing. When I am not Wood Working I am on the forum Moderating or Fishing.  8)

Hey Dan, do you ever get to use any of that flooring?
As for me, I am a full time student while Jaun is an over the road truck driver.  I don't consider  myself a bum, I am furthering my education in hopes of getting a job in a field I would enjoy...like computers graphics.  Other than that, I take care of the house chores and do scroll work.
The grandkids mother will be here 2morrow so I will not have that job anymore, at least until summer.  LOL.

For the last 16 yrs. I have been tattooing, before that spent some time in the Army, drove truck, drove tow trucks, fought forest fire, logged, repossesed, and work on Christmas tree farms.

I am a Leak Detector. I work for American Leak Detection. We find concealed leaks in pools and spas, under slabs and walls, gas leaks, sewer leaks and so on. Been in the plumbing biz for 35 years! Sounds like a krappy job don't it?

I started working when I was 13.
Most recently....USAF 4 years (1962-1967), Draftsman for 4 years, Sheetmetal lay-out man for 15 years, Mac Tools distrubitor for 20 years and retired in 2006. Now I sit on my tail, drink beer, and do some wood working when the mood strikes me.....It was easier and less busy when I was working but, I aint going back....WORK is a 4 letter word!

After 15 years owning my own construction business (plumbing and HVAC) I shut it down and went to work for Harrah's Casino in Arizona. i am currently the Security/Risk & Safety Manager for the property while also attending school full time and scrolling when I can. I retired from a little paid per call fire department 5 years ago with 21 years of service in. In the fire service I went from a recruit all the way to Assitant Chief and was the elected Treasurer for 4 years.

Military personel I applaud You. Chief, my father is a plank owner of the USS Ranger. If I was ever to go into a military, it would have been the Navy. But for me. I am like Russ. Went to the Fire Service instead. My promoted Rank is Front Line Captain. My Appointed Rank is Deputy Chief of Maintenance (4 Bugles). of the Terre Haute Fire Department. I am now 51 yo. I'll Be 52 in September, don't know if I'll retire yet??????????? Dave 8)
