Take a look at the Spring 2020 (Issue 78) of Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts Magazine. They have a Noah's Ark project there.

Ask Steve a question. / Puzzle Boxes
« on: June 23, 2020, 05:06:01 pm »
I am determined to make a puzzle box. The first one I tried with very hard wood and gave up as it was just too hard. The piece was 2"x2"x3". Next I tried a star puzzle box. Everything was fine with the cut but when I painted it, it wouldn't go together. I realize the paint adds thickness but the directions showed a painted box so obviously this can be done. Would love suggestions on painting puzzle boxes, or should I just put an oil or stain on them and call it a day?

You say squadron and I immediately think airplanes - is that correct? Anyway how about a plane with with marks on it for all the years she's been of service.

I also have a Jet and love it. I've had to adjust the tension to keep the arm up and in doing so the table and the arm are no longer parallel to each other. Back to the manual as I know there's a way to adjust that (but I'd rather saw than adjust ;-)

Ask Steve a question. / New Jet Scroll Saw Set up
« on: April 25, 2020, 10:48:05 am »
There's a plastic piece under the table that covers the throat plate from below blocking the small holes where the saw dust should drop down through. It looks like that plastic piece goes under the vacuum connector. I believe I should take that off - correct? There shouldn't be anything stopping the saw dust from dropping down through those small holes - right?

One of the first things I did was get the adapters. I'm making a list of what I want in my next saw: easy clamping of blades, larger table, better blower, easier way to set tension. What saw are you using and how do you like it?

I took up scroll sawing in late December. I work like a mad woman and when our office closed down between Christmas and New Year's I needed something to take up my time. I bought a saw from Harbor Freight for $69. Figured it was a small investment that I could afford plus my husband had lots of scrap wood in the basement shop. I'm hooked!!! I just started my first intarsia project. A little scared of that as I have the pieces cut out but don't have a clue on how to sand them but waiting for a book from Amazon to give me some pointers. Made a 5 piece turtle puzzle. Learned a lesson there about having the saw at 90 degrees. My next puzzle came out much better. It's a tough decision on whether to spend the day gardening, which I love or down in the shop without sunlight, which I also love. Enough of this introduction as I need to head down to the shop to put some tung oil on my lighthouse ;-)
