Steve,
I noticed that at one time you had information on how to create a pattern from a photograph. Is that still available and if so how can the information? I am a retired US Marine and also fairly new to this whole thing. Like most Marines I know we don't do things half way we like to jump in with both feet, so I decided to learn how to make my own Portrait Patterns. Thanks for you help.

Steve has a couple of videos out on Youtube depending on the software you have.
Corel Drawhttps://youtu.be/fu9MutXvCxs (https://youtu.be/fu9MutXvCxs)
For Gimp he used to sell a video but the link is gone. That maybe due to the new version of GIMP.
For GIMP there is a course for free at Scroll Saw Village. Note it was done a long time ago so you may have to work with new version of GIMP
https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/lms/course/10-designing-portraits-with-gimp/ (https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/lms/course/10-designing-portraits-with-gimp/)
Also, if you are not familiar with GIMP there is an course at https://logosbynick.teachable.com/p/gimp-series (https://logosbynick.teachable.com/p/gimp-series)
I just took the course on Inscape from Nick and I found it very helpful. This course would be over kill for just doing portraits but great instructor.
