Title: Mike's Workshop
Post by: pddesertrat on March 08, 2015, 04:22:01 pm
Looks like Mike at 84 has decided to retire.  Word is he has sold his business to The Wooden Teddy Bear (WTB).   WTB is based in Portland,Ore.  They have been selling Flying Dutch blades for some time.  So sad to see the era of Mike's Workshop close it's doors, but I only wish the best for Mike.  He was a pleasure to do business with.  I only hope WTB can live up to Mike's reputation.  Mike set the bar way up there.

Wishing Mike all the best for his retirement (84 and still at it, Shuts me up for winging at 50 something)

True gentleman and a fair business man.

Lets see if the WBT can match his prices and shipping to the UK Time will tell

I also wish Mike all the best! I met Mike several times when I was just starting out.  Wooden Teddy is a good, reputable company. Vernon and Keri are wonderful people. I am happy they are the ones Mike passed the torch to. :)

That is good to read, Sheila.  I may have to stop by sometime and meet  them.  I travel to Portland often.

Have you ever notices that most "scroll saw people" are good people.

I am very happy for Mike and wish him the best!!!  (84 year old?) I had no idea.   The man is amazing and God bless him!!  I just received an order from him on Friday. (must be one of his last)   I can also say that I have dealt with the Wooden Teddy Bear several times and they are great people.  Keep on Scrolling.

I just got an order and message from Mike last week.  His business will be sorely missed by the scrollsaw community.  I hope he will still join us on the forum.  His expertise and guidance has been invaluable.  Best wishes for an excellent retirement.

Mike's work ethics and customer service will be hard to beat.  WTB is going to have to work hard to even come close to Mikes service.  His business will be missed throughout the scroll saw community.  Wishing him a happy retirement.  Hopefully we will see some of his projects now that he has more time for the saw.

Wouldn't you know it, I was ready to place an order yesterday.  I was going to try the blade fastening knobs that Mike had on his site as looked as though they would help my arthritic fingers.  Looked on WTB and didn't see them on their site so don't know if they will stock them or not.
Can't blame Mike as at his age, he is entitled to some retirement.  I had the opportunity to meet him a few times at some of the scrolling conventions and you couldn't find a nicer guy.  He will definitely be missed.

As I understand it, "Mike's Workshop" will remain, just have a new phone number.

I will miss mike dearly, I have only ordered from him a few times and his shipping was great within a fw days I had blades in my mail box and haveing a good deal on shipping was great as well, after seeign the shipping rates from WTB I am doubtful I will be ordering from them, from the list they have to order a gross set of blades at 30 bucks thats almost 7 bucks for shipping, to me thats high for blades that could be packed like mike did. Or will be ordering less to cut back on shipping, I have heard another site to order FD blades from but have not looked at what shipping cost are from them yet.

Best wishes mike on your retirement.

You can still order from Mike's Workshop, the prices are still the same as Mike charged.  The only thing different is the phone number.

I have read, stated by Mike that there is going to be a slight increase in the cost of the blades.  This is not WTB's doing.  Mike was going to have to increase also, because the cost to him increased.  He didn't pass on the increase because he was in the process of selling the shop.

Best wishes Mike, you are truly the best and have always been my go to person for blades over the years.

Great news and thank you for the update.  I wish you the best and anxious to do business with you.  Well I guess I have done business, I ordered from Mike's Workshop just the other day.

Hope you know your Wooden Teddy Bear site is down.  I keep getting "No Service" when I try to access it.

Yes , we apologize!  Not sure why the Woodenteddybear site is down. Whether it was do to power outages here yesterday or what.  We're trying to get it up and running as soon as possible!!

Thank you Vernon for the info.  Glad to hear at nothing has changed except for the phone and fax numbers.  I made an order the day after your take-over of the business and was hoping nothing got lost in the shuffle.  Haven't heard from you but Mike said it may take a few days.  Thanks again for keeping us up to date.

Hi Vernon and welcome to the forum.  You may have noticed we are very fond of Mike.  You have some big shoes to fill.  That being said, I have done business with the Wooden Teddy Bear in the past and had very good service.  Again, welcome.

Received my first order from the new Mike's Workshop today.  It has probably been sitting in my P.O box for a few days, I haven't checked it since last Friday.  Everything A-okay.
